Default Popping My NOLA Cherry!

So, I've always wanted to come and check the city out. A girlfriend of mine comes for the Voodoo fest every year and has great stories about it. I am about to be able to travel out there in a couple of weeks and needed to get the local perspective. Other than Bourbon Street, what do you think are "must see's?"

I love good food, blues, scary stuff and historical sites. No one would now better than the local people. So any suggestions?

The French Quarter is great if you have never been. If you like great live music, I would suggest you head to the Marigny. Its a neighborhood that boards the French Quarter and has some of the best live "New Orleans" music in the city.

There are so many places to eat and I am sure you will get a ton or rec's, but if you like oysters you have to go to Drago's and get the char grilled oysters. Acme is fine, but there is always a crowd and thats where all the tourists end up.

Have fun and be safe!

Good advice Stick.

Get OFF Bourbon and stroll the entire Quarter in the daytime. It's safe. It's one of great neighborhoods of America.

When are you coming? I'll try to find some good blues for you - not that you don't have plenty of good music over there in Austin. (Joe Ely rulz!)

You know, I was never a an of oysters but that does sound like something I have to ty. One of the best things about getting out of town is to try new things.

I am shooting to be there around the 28th....any good venues around then? (Thanks btw! Very much! It's nice to have an inside scoop!)

And seriously?! A Hollywood Hustler store?! That's top on my list to see after good food and good music.

I love Austin too. Have been here about 15 years. They used to have a great Cajun restaruant here called "Razzoo's" (I used to waitress there and had everything on the menu!). It was so delicious but it's closed now and I can't find anything else that compares. Oh how can I forget "Jazz" on 6th street was great too but it also closed like 7 or 8 years ago. So I'm looking forward to some real deal cajun food!
