That hasn't seemed to stop many providers from raising their donations $20 - $40 / hr over the last month or so. Now that's going to really help things pick up, isn't it?

All I can figure is that when it's slow, they decide they need to get more money from fewer appointments. But of course, all that does is make for even fewer appointments...

Im not sure what providers it is your speaking of? Maybe your talking about some of the new ladies with gps! My rates have been the same ever since I first started as have many of the other veteran providers that I know well. In this hobby there are many ladies with different rates that can fit almost anyone's budget, so if a ladies rate is to high either move on or save up.

Eventually, provider rates might just depreciate to nothing with this kind of goings on. I'm sure hobbyists would love that but then we'd be their not-so-significant-other.
Who wants to be that? Further more who wants that?
Provider's bodies are an amusement park for adrenaline junkies. Guys/people like to be sneaky, do things that are daring and life threatening, and they don't mind paying for it. It's human nature. Otherwise they would go catch barfly's, or easy chicks on dating sites ect.
I'll give you a discount as soon as my landlord, City of Austin, Texas Gas Service, the local gas station, my phone company gives me, A DISCOUNT. How about that!
I am a frugal person by my definition yet I live quite comfortably with very few vices which eat away at most 5% about my income. Ironically, I like to buy things at a discount aswell. If, it's a quality good which I NEED(being the operative word) that is. If it's a luxury item, I will save up and buy it out right to avoid paying interest. I do this with the help of generous gentlemen whom I very much appreciate. Just as much as I'm sure they appreciate how I don't call them and bug them about how I need this and that every other day, Yet I'm always ready and on when they call me. So there you have it. I will add, that I am not perfect and have borrowed money form a client in the past b/c I was in need and it took me quite a while to pay him back. The guilt eat me up inside. It was an honest lesson learned. I will never get myself in a precarious position like that, ever again. Nor do I plan on ever borrowing or accepting money from a client ever again. I've had offers recently and turned them down. No need when you save your money for a rainy day.
As for the OP. I'm so sorry you are having problems. I know you are in dire need but, my thoughts are, when you publicly admit you are getting no business you make yourself look undesirable and desperate. With all due respect, honestly, that is a huge turn off for (decent) guys. However, every shady, manipulative weirdo will come out of the woodworks to "help you" in your time of need. Also, maybe a few honest yet incredibly gullible guys will offer help.
My advice to you is to privately inquire with seasoned providers who are doing as well as you would like to be doing. Ask them how they got where they are. But never say you are slow. It's good you are open to other avenues of advertising. You will be fine once you get to knowing about the hobby more. I've known some BBWs who really stay busy. Always busy. Even I'm a chubbster and I do pretty well. I know plenty of ladies who get great consistent business without having to offer a discount; even in a tough economy. Austin is truly booming in my opinion. Those ladies unaffected by the economy have to be doing something right. Right? Right.
Take care of yourself and your family. Always remember you can call 311 and ask for financial help they will give you tons of charities and avenues for assistance. It takes a little footwork and patience but you can get your bills paid. I hope this helps. Good luck.

There are certain times of year that the hobby is slower. Seasoned providers often know & plan for these times. The back to school lull is coupled this year with something else that impacts the hobby - pres. election. You will notice things pick up again midNovember. This effects the hobbyists as well. Providers looking for alternative sources of income neglect returning calls & msgs. Some providers let their stress impact their BCD skills. Alerts go up & providers get tighter on screening. I could go on & on but to spare you, the bottom line is give extra care to those that are seeing you. Don't lower your rates but instead try offering a little more time for a relaxing experience or dinner dates before an appt. See if there are unique services you can provide such as a nuru massage or bubble bath. Check the review section & see who is continuing to get lots of reviews during this time. Try to emulate their board presence, ask them if they need a doubles partner, or ask them what they are doing to increase biz. Consider travelling to be a fresh face in a new city. Stay on top of the ISO section. And finally, when things pick up, save as much as you can... The next lull comes in the first 2 weeks of January. Stay strong ladies, when hobbyists slow down on the hobby, they come back in full force when things pick up.

I seriously like this smart, intelligent woman, ATXDream.
OP, you would do well re-reading her post and then researching some of her previous posts, especially her experiment and experience on offering discounted pricing.
She is sexy, intelligent and well worth emulating.
Good luck with your current predicament, times will get better.

Agreed. Clients don't want to be bothered with our personal problems, unless they are close to us and actual friends, and it is completely understandable not to want to take on someone else's drama. Desperation is the world's worst cologne. It will, however, put you on the radar of sketchy guys who will try and take advantage of you.
Rather than publicly advertise your financial distress, it's better to offer a special rate, and/or an extra-special rate for established clients to prepay a second session for a discount or extra time. I did this recently and it worked out really well.
Not sure how long you've been working, but there are seasonal ups and downs that become predictable if one pays attention. Off the top of my head, around Memorial and Labor Day, and after the Xmas holidays tend to be very slow.
