Verizon has been a real pain in the butt. I have such bad reception at my place in the Bay that they had to add Cellular South to my phone. So, CS works at home, but soon as I drive away from the Coast, I have to change back to Verizon.
My contract is up in June, and I'll be with another cell provider soon as it is.

I've been with T-Mobile for about 5-6 years, and have been totally satisfied. Take that FWIW.
Cheers,

I had ATT for over 10 years (BOOO!! Hiss!!!) with problem after problem starting after they introduced the iPhone. I couldn't have a conversation without dropping the call.
I switched to Cell South almost 2 years ago. I have not had a single problem with it regardless of where I travel, maybe 2 dropped calls in a year. It even works out in the boonies around Hattiesburg, Wiggins, Saucier. I haven't been to Picayune with it, but I'd bet it would work there. Most people in rural areas have CS because it is the only one that gets signal. T-mobile and Sprint seem to have spotty service even in Jackson and you are SOL in rural areas. Same for ATT, you can go for miles with absolutely no service.
My cell guy used to be ATT dealer but changed to Verizon because Verizon is more dependable and tests their equipment more thoroughly before release than some of the other companies. He told me that in the south, Verizon uses mostly CellSouth towers and outside the south, CS uses Verizon towers. He gave me a Verizon phone to test in the boonies and it worked. I chose CS because their all inclusive crackberry plan is much cheaper than Verizon = $70 vs. about $110? I'm glad I did, as it has been great.
Incidentally, Crackberry (and probably other smartphones) is great because you can also set up a Google Voice number for them and it ring/text on your cell. There is a google voice interface and the call/text is web based (I think - not a technophile here). I use google voice for my hobby phone and don't have to carry 2 cell phones.

T-Mobile did ok for us when I came down to Jax to see you.
I'll make a note of your observations for any visits I make in the Outback of the Magnolia State, though. Thanks!

I wish these people would provide a phone for a test period. I travel all over the US and have had some serious problems with Verizon. I got Verizon because it worked in the tunnels of the DC Metro, but it is crap here on the Coast - at least at my house. I want to change, but I can't be sure any of these services will work where I go.

Cellular South pretty much has a sterling rep for working in the Deep South. They were doing a promo where they'd "pay"* your early termination fee if you switched to them before your contract with your provider had ended. Don't know if they're doing it now, but if you're near time to change providers.... I don't want to dis T-Mobile, as I've loved them and they've been very good to me, but Cell South might be the way for you to go...
Cheers,
bcg
* i.e., they'd give you a credit on your first bill(s) equal to the amount of your termination fee.

Cellular South works fine in Picayune.I've had it about 10 years and no problems at all.

I've had Verizon for years and yes, when in MS it switches to roaming on Cellular South. Sorry you have had issues, JAG, but I have never yet dropped a call or not connected - with my phone or my aircard.
