Default Gaming and Other Games of Chance in Texas?

The Texas state legislature is considering approving gambling in Texas as means of closing the $18 billion budget shortfall..

What do you think? I say yes to poker rooms, but no to casinos, slots and other games of chance.

Legalizing prostitution would be better though.

Would love a casino that is closer. Or at least a poker room.

Would love to see it. Won't happen. Very strong anti-gambling lobby in Texas.

that is what the Baptist said about horse racing but now that I am living in Oklahoma, I say thank you for the sales tax generated.

My two daughters are 1/8 Otoe Missourian which has the smallest casino in the state and they get about $700 quarterly. I wonder what the Choctaw's (Durrant) and the Chickasaws (Win Star) get?

I give a huge yes to casino and other games in Texas. Beats giving it all to Oklahoma or Louisiana.

I say legalize it all -- poker rooms, casinos, drugs, hookers, etc. Every damned bit of it. Why fuck around with half measures? No form of prohibition works or has ever worked.

I think in order for Lone Star park to survive, they are going to need some type of gambling at the track. I have noticed smaller fields of horses and the purses don't compete with some of the other tracks. The horsemen will take their stables to tracks with bigger purses. Also I was out there last Saturday and for such a beautiful day there wasn't a huge crowd and they actually had three stake races.

I think gambling in Texas would be great. How nice would it be to legally play TEXAS hold em, IN TEXAS??? In the casinos in Oklahoma and Louisianna, the vast majority of players are from here. Not to mention MANY Texans in Vegas....Why keep sending our money elsewhere???

I think voting for the Legislature constitutes a game of chance

Legalize it. The government should not play the role of nanny for a free people. This is America. If people want it, even if it's not a majority, let them have it and let free market enterprise provide it to them. Also, legalize prostitution and drugs while you're at it, and kill Big Brother.
