Curveball ( an Iraqi-Iranian contact with links to the Iranian govt.) was largely involved in the deception. He told them what they wanted to hear..... I forgot his name, but was revealed after the fact.

The biggest liar was Saddam himself, claimed he had wmd. he was playing macho chicken when it backfired on him. I understand why he did it. It is an Arab macho thing to be seen as strong, not weak in the eyes of the arab world.
