The two party system is the problem. They are essentially one party, both serving the interests of Wall Street and major corporations. So where do those of us who want freedom and a constitutional republic turn? We won't find much commonality with either major party.

No, the two party system is not the problem. The people you are allowing to run the parties are the problem.

You get organized. You pick whichever major party you can mostly live with, and you get to work. You remember that, as Tip O'Neill used to say, "All politics is local." You get the vote out. You get YOUR guy to run in the primary, you GET THE VOTE OUT, and you elect YOUR guy as the major candidate. Under the unwritten rules of the game, the party faithful are then committed to working to elect YOUR guy in November.

I say again, read "Take Back Your Government!", by Robert A. Heinlein.

Shortly after World War II, Colorado Springs CO faced a situation similar to the one that we now face on a national level. The city was run by a thoroughly-corrupt political machine. The machine was thoroughly entrenched.

Heinlein, and others, Got Involved. It took them a few years. They won. They successfully ran candidates against the machine. They took back The Springs. That book was a pamphlet he wrote at the time, for people who wanted/needed to do something similar in THEIR town.

Maybe you haven't noticed, but Barney Frank is not running for re-election.

Maybe you weren't paying attention, but Ted Kennedy's old Senate seat is now filled by a Tea Party Republican.

It *can* be done.

And the Oval Office is home to a fascist. And his opponent is only slightly less fascist. And there are statists coming up for the foreseeable future.

I'll read it if I can find it. I don't think it's on Kindle, so I'll check around. I'd like to think there's some hope, but it isn't coming from the Tea Party and gradualism. We will be done as a country by the time that works.

You may be right about gradualism not working fast enough. It took the socialists about a hundred years to get us into this mess, assuming it started with Wilson. We definitely don't have another hundred years to change course.

Kurt Vonnegut said the great American myth is that every problem can be solved. I hope our current path towards tyranny is solvable.

I do not remember who said it, but one of the founders said that if at any point in time the government no longer works throw it out and start a new one. We are at that point in time. Since it is unlikely that the voting public would wake up and vote out all of them in masse, it becomes up to the states to revise the constitution to right the wrongs created by the last 100 years of progressive behavior. I know that the ideas I have stated on voting may not be the answer. I think that some level of change must be made to get people more involved in the process. I think the states need to form a constitutional convention that would revoke the income tax, mandate a balanced budget, return to having Senators appointed by states vice popularly elected and change language as required to reduce the size of the federal government. Sometimes things are interpreted to mean that which it was not intended and needs to be fixed. The balance of power to congress needs to be restored. This would go a long way to fixing things, however, as long as political parties exist the corruption will not cease. This needs to be addressed at the constitutional convention as well.

I do realize the age difference. I feel that the 18 years I spent in the Navy dealing with this type of BS from the government went a long way to enhancing my understanding. Not to mention my fondness for History and Politics.

I am not a huge fan of the test either since it would result in to much corruption. Perhaps a test for those who wish to run. Now that is an idea.
