Default A History of Attacks on Freedom in the US

Interesting article outlining the various methods the government has used to quell dissent among the population. Notice how it starts back in 1798, and then gets progressively stronger, particularly after 9-11. Frightening how the government wants to manage us.

People in government will always attempt to increase the control over the governed. It is up to each citizen to remain vigilant.

I am a strong proponent of sunset provisions on each and every law with the exception of constitutional amendments. Subsequent generations should not have to live under the tyranny imposed under the previous generation.

I mean really, what can they say? They always dress it up as beneficial for the people and they promise to be generous but they still want to be in control. Control of our lives, control of our commerce, control of our speech, just more control. Look at the very nice, benevolent, generous Mayor Bloomberg. He went after transfats, then salt, now soda, and they're talking about popcorn and milk drinks. Doesn't anyone in New York city think this is over the line?

The problem with most people is they do not understand what created this nation and why it was set up the way it was.

The form of government was never meant to control the people but for the people to control the government.
The idea that each of the colonies or states should decide, based on the citizens of that state, how much government they would impose on themselves. The founders, understanding the desire of some to control others, purposely added the portion known as the Bill of Rights to insure that no government could exercise the type of control over the people that they had been subject to in that time.

A great example is the prohibition in the constitution of funding a standing army for more than 2 years yet the constitution requires us to have a navy. The idea is that by insuring, via the 2nd amendment, that the populace will be armed and can defend our selves until an army could be mustered. This was done based on the knowledge that funding a military is ver expensive and history shows that those with great armies used them to loot and plunder in order to increase the wealth of their country.

In a nutshell, we have gotten so far off track that we are not the nation that was set forth over 200 years ago.
