Diseases in recently-infected blood can go undetected. So all potential donors are screened for activities which may put them at risk from infection.

I agree with this.

On the hooker question I think its personal decision and only 'technically' a lie. barebacking rundberg chicks, vs protected sex either with an escort or some college cutie on 6th street is the same risk in my eyes. heck probably less. I think it just saves them time to lump it all in one question instead of asking 20 questions. Did you pay and wear a rubber, how drunk was she, etc etc. It does pose additional risk to the bloodsupply, but if the rubber doesn't break I am ok with telling one more little lie amongst the other bazillion little white lies we say on any given day to get through society.

p.s. acupuncture doesn't disqualify you at all

I think there is more science than social fear in this.

Guys, guys.... how did a discussion about donating blood digress this far off track in such a short time? (rhetorical question for this crowd...)

Back on topic, please!

I use condoms so I lie when I donate blood. My hobby is low volume anyway. I only pay for time not sex. So is it really a lie????

Yes...you are "minimizing & justifying" based on your personal feelings that you are 100% safe due to condom & frequency...and while your risk is mitigated by these precautions, they are not eliminated. Make sense?

You should not donate blood. None of the hobbyist or providers should. Your risking other peoples lives for your selfish desires. No one wants our blood and the blood supply is not at a low point where it is needed so why selfishly put other people at risk.

So do you pay them to come over and cuddle or read you a bedtime story, or are we talking dinner and a movie with some hand holding.

I tried that once...but the windows were all streaked after she left from sloppy licking...and my barstools legs had this shiny surface from the "patented stripper slide" cleaning method...

It was fun to watch though...I'll never use my spatula without smiling ever again...

LOL cowardice at its finest.

You comment in this thread that a way to draw blood is to mouth off to someone, you say you are one of those who can be mouthed off to, you are invited TWICE to show up and the best you can do is post "PM Me, etc"

dude, I don't think I need to post further on that lol

Not a coward, but not stupid either. I'm not gonna show up alone to either place where you're with your buddies.

Default Donating blood, back on topic, if I may

without incurring wrath of anyone. I have a relatively rare blood type and years ago, when in college, I donated regularly, sometimes for free and sometimes not. I always went when they called me and that was quite a bit. At this time they never asked, as far as I recollect, if I had had sex for pay. I think at that time they tested you for the STD's extant.

I went to donate recently and ran upon the "question" , made an excuse and left. What perterbed me was that in the screening process they are asking you to admit that you have violated the law. I think they should find another way to insure the safety of the blood supply.
