I will defend a provider when she is right...
I will defend a hobbiest when he is right...
Like what was already said, right is right...I will defend someone that I know is right regaurdless what 'social group' or 'side of the fence' they fall in.
I have several hobbiests that I will fight tooth and nail to defend, and I don't care if it would ruin my rep...because I know them, and I know they would never do anything wrong or to cause any harm to anyone. I know that my life line here is limited, and will not last very long, where as a hobbiest is usually in it for the long haul. If clearing their name causes me to loose my name, I am all for it.
Now with that being said, I also understand that some people can go way overboard in their rightous battles, but I don't like the idea of useing Joan the Arc as a term...and I don't know if a 'white knight' always means the gentlman is being a fanatic...I was under the impression that a white knight is a hobbiest that usually fights for the ladies when they need someone to stick up for them...but that does not always include going over board.

If the provider is on fire can we refer to her as JOA?

JOA is Joint Operating Agreement (common in oil & gas industries among others)
I vote against work lingo in the hobby...

What would we call the female version of this type of person?
Perhaps a JOAN OF ARC?
Acronym: JOA
Slang Usage: "Don't worry about her, she's just being a Joan."

I don't think you even know what a "White Knight" is...

A hobbyist that is operating under the delusion of grandeur that he is Lancelot.
The annoying ones follow a provider around like a lap dog and nitpick every review and post in a constant effort to defend his unrequited love.
The dangerous ones leak PA information, stalk the lady he bleeds for, and threaten/harass anyone that sees the object of his obsession. They have lost touch with reality and operate under the belief thay are going to save the poor damsel from the hobby and one day make her an honest woman.
That pretty much covers it.

If you must create a term for such a thing, I vote for something a little less controversial. Mother Hen maybe? Just my $.02 thrown in. Moving on.

Lol traci.. that could be mistaken for a term of endearment. I don't think that's what Anon was going for.

Exactly.
Endearment would be reserved for things you wink and nod at. No one has a problem with providers that look out for one another, or gents that follow the unwritten, but understood MAD CODE. We all get that--it is loyalty and kinship.
We are talking about when such camaraderie slides into something more unhealthy and twisted and the person in question may be acting in a way that even the person they attached themselves to might even be uncomfortable.
We are talking about when reality becomes lost on the person and while they think they have good intentions, the motivations are so twisted that they are actually doing more harm than good.

Oh I see now. Lol, I wasn't thinking in terms that serious. I'll take my little bum back to the kiddie pool, then. This is a little too deep for me. :P

Hey, Traci, you spent any time where Mother English is spoken? "Bum" is (for the most part) an English colloquialism.

I don't think it is anywhere near as sinister as you do, nor does it involve stalking.
Put simply, it is an individual (of either gender) that jumps to the defense of another poster without regard to the facts, logic or objectivity in an attempt to curry favor with the poster.
I could list plenty of examples but the moderation staff would get their panties in a bunch.
