You are right in that is the listed salary, but the salary is the type of half-truth bullshit that those in Washington want you believe. See the link,
http://legalcareers.about.com/od/law...ecialAgent.htm
"Based on those grade levels and the assigned geographic area, the 2009 starting salary range is $43,200 - $73,354. An additional 25% Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) is added to locality pay. A Foreign Language Recruitment Bonus of 25 percent of basic annual pay is paid to newly hired special agents who test at the skill level required.
"While assigned to field offices, special agents are normally assigned to work a 40-hour work week. Due to the receipt of LEAP, special agents usually work an average of two additional hours per day. The hours worked by special agents vary depending on the nature of their assignments. Special agents are required to work hours other than normal business hours (e.g., 12 a.m.-8 a.m., 4 p.m.-12 a.m., 10 a.m.-6 p.m., 6 a.m.-2 p.m., 2 p.m.-10 p.m., etc.) with the addition to 2 or more LEAP hours, on a daily basis."
So add in the LEAP, language bonus, and housing allowance, and you are close to $100,000 per year. Then add in the health care and workman's comp insurance, and you are over $100k. One cop I know was bragging about nabbing $3000 for a workman's comp injury where he just jammed his finger in a brawl with a subject.
And then of course there are the pensions. If you get 80% of your income of say $50,000 for working 20 years and live say 40 more years, that amounts to a $2 million payout. That amounts to another $100,000 per year for each year worked. No one in the private sector is getting pensions like this anymore.
Then you have travel stipends for food and lodging. Here are pics of the five star hotel the SS agents were staying at:
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/secr...-were-staying/
And the other thing too is how much these government guys get in gifts. I was at a strip club and the VIP section was filled with the troops getting in free, and I see all the time soldiers getting free first class upgrades. I'd be shocked if the SS agents didn't get similar treatment. Of course, gift giving to government people is considered patriotic.
At the poverty level? Hardly.
And where is median income in this country the highest? "Fairfax was the first county in the United States to reach a six-figure median household income, and has the second-highest median household income of any local jurisdiction in the United States after neighbor Loudoun County."
And does it need to be said that Fairfax and Loudon county are part of the Washington DC metro area?
And I was just reading Peter King's sport page and came across this
http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/201...e_probe_f.html
I can't even read a sports page without running into government arrogance.

Agreed, but the Republican pigs have been feeding at the same trough too. Let's not do the partisan thing and blame all government arrogance, stupidity, and greed on just one party or person. There is plenty of blame to go around.
