If you do shoot someone in the head or in the heart, you will be drilled even harder by the prosecutor. The best defense is to NOT shoot to kill but rather to STOP the person.
Best way to stop someone is one or two shots to the chest.

A 9mm, .38, .40. 45 ... as long as it shoots staight and the person shooting it can hit what he's aiming at is all that matters. A .22 can be very effective if the gun is used properly and the shots are located in vital areas. You can have a hand grenade but it doesn't do you any good if you don't use it properly!
I asked at the begining of the thread what people carry. I'm curioius as to the different preferences and how folks holster them . I just bought a Taurus Millennium Pro .45 ACP (third generation). I like the power of a .45 but it's kind of chubby for CC. One gunsmith told me that "with a .45 you just have to wing 'em and you're gonna do some damage".

I usually carry a Springfield XD9 and I keep it loaded with frangible ammunition to reduce the chance of an over penetration or ricochet. I choose to routinely carry my 9mm instead my other handguns because it is easier to bring back onto target for follow up shots and has a nice large magazine. As far as going to court, I was in the service and qualified as expert, so I'll get raked over the coals no matter if I have a CHL or not.

My apoligies to you Ramos, I guess I didn't catch the part about "what we carry"

Irish Creme - it was like every one was doin the mine's better than yours rants.

Me, when I carry I have a S&W 9mm with 17 rds of hollow point! and I can shoot rather well with it if need be. I also have a Taurus Judge, shoots .45 and 410. 410 with single aught buck kicks like a mule but splatters about 12 rounds in 18" pattern at about 15 feet.

Again my apologies! My bad!

For me, carrying is about giving myself more options. I am less likely to get myself or someone else injured because I have many choices. I already know how I respond in life/death situations. My mind is clear and my judgment is sound. Everyone around me is safer when I carry, even if they don't know it.

My Lord! I didn't know such a thing existed! I just looked up the Taurus Judge and I'm envious. I have a Mossburg 500 shotie for home defense but had I known about this little item I would have jumped on it. Not as unwieldily I'm sure.

Stainless compact .45 with over a dozen rounds in it.
Fit nicely in my front pocket.

It actually shoots 45 colt, not acp, BIG difference. I have one in a Bond Derringer. Nice toy, but the Mossburg is better home defense. For home defense I have an AK-47, 'when you absolutely, positively, have to kill every motherfucker in the room, accept no subsitute...'

A .410 holds 4 pellets of buck, a 12ga will hold about 12...

Re the Derringer. I looked it up and it looks like it would nice for CC. But just two shots right? What kind of stopping power would it have? How much tissue damage would the pellets present to the bad guy. It would certainly get his attention, but would it stop bad behavior or just piss him off?

Answer: What if there are three bad guys... Its a toy, for fun at the range, I would never stake my life on it. Smallest carry I have is a Kahr PM9. I usually carry a Sig 229 or 1911. If you want to hide it you can, I just wear a sport coat over it, you get use to the weight of it, 35+ oz, plus extra mags.

I have my concealed carry, and depending on the situation I will carry a ruger .308 on me. In my door safe I have a Glock .45 ACP. And under my rear seat which folds up I have a gun safe that carries a 5.56 AR-15 Pistol. Someone asked me once what I was scared of and I responed, " Not a fucking thing."

"My Lord! I didn't know such a thing existed! I just looked up the Taurus Judge and I'm envious. I have a Mossburg 500 shotie for home defense but had I known about this little item I would have jumped on it. Not as unwieldily I'm sure."

I shot a friends Taurus Judge at the range, and it is a nice little toy but I personally would not spend money on it. To me it is bulky, and the recoil is more than I like. I am sure using .45 ammo would have some stopping power but my father told me once that he was in a bar when a fight broke out and one of the guys came back with the judge and fired both .410 shells into the other guys chest at close range. The guy that had been shot then proceeded to beat him to an inch of his life and then stuffed part of the gun into the unconsious guys mouth.
