There is no law, Texas or federal, preventing the carry of a concealed handgun in a bank.

Places where concealed carry is prohibited, may be out of date:

"51%" TABC bar, etc. (felony),
correctional facility premises (felony),
premises of a school or school vehicle (felony),
premises of a polling place on election day (felony),
government court or offices thereof (felony),
premises of a racetrack (felony),
*secured* area of an airport (felony),

hospital (class A misdemeanor),
nursing home (A),
premises of a HS/college/professional sporting event (A),
amusement park (A),
premises of a place of worship (A),
at any meeting of a governmental entity (A),

LCRA land (Class C Misdemeanor),

and on the premises of DPS (administrative violation).

The definitions are much longer in the law, ofc. Also, it is interesting to note that most of the misdemeanors are only misdemeanors if the proper signs are in place.

Just walk around brandishing a shotgun and/or assault rifle. Both are completely legal, in and of themselves, but they tend to hand out pesky citations for disturbing the peace, or in some cases, making terrorist threats. The latter is a HUGE stretch for me, and we'll see if it holds up. I always found it interesting how one activity (carrying a rifle in public in this case) is completely legal in and of itself, and yet you will get popped on a collateral charge. It's a quirky body of law we've written!

As for a concealed permit, it's been on my "to do" list for ages. I traveled a whole lot for work, and still do, but you can carry a firearm if you're crossing county lines so I never had a huge use. I need to just bite the bullet, (no pun intended) shell out the $$$ for the class, and get my permit one of these days.

I've been shopping around and find, so far, the best deal is a one day ( 10 hour) class for $75. Plus you'll need
minimum of 50 rounds of your favorite ammo. They will also rent you a firearm, if needed. I'm told the exam
isn't difficult at all. PM me if you want details.

Anyplace posting a 30.06 sign is off limits. Interestingly enough you can carry in city hall. You cannot carry during a council meeting but once concluded you may do so again.

Don't have one.
But *I* feel the classes may be a bit of a joke.
Having owned a poor mans ATM (read that as a gas station) i've been in situations where a firearm is involved.

For some reason, I never paniced (sp) and ALWAYS thought of the shoot/don't shoot situation.

I don't feel that class stresses that. And not knowing and following it can lead you into a whole new world of do do.

Where u can and can't carry depends greatly on the state.
In Iowa you can carry unless posted otherwise.

I've had a CHL for quite a while now. I've carried a variety of pistols through the years, current carry gun is a Glock M20 (10mm Auto). I'm also working on getting a gun for home defense..

There are no restrictions on carrying in a bank. I also believe it's legal to open carry on your own property.

with a CHL for me now my 380acp is like my american express I dont leave home without it. it fits right in my back pocket and can not be seen and it is always there and very easy to get to. I have a Bersa 380 thunder brand new under $300 bucks and i will hold it up to a $600 walther ppk anyday. very well built gun and very durable and for the $280 i paid for it at academy I really dont care if if it gets a scratch or 2 from being tossed in the door of my truck or on the floorboard and it will always be ready to fire and very solid build

I like the Bersa CC Thunder .380 because it is thinner but they are great firearms. I went with the Walther because I picked it up for $330.

Does it really matter what you have? Everyone's touting on what they carry. A 9mm, .38, .40. 45 ... as long as it shoots staight and the person shooting it can hit what he's aiming at is all that matters. A .22 can be very effective if the gun is used properly and the shots are located in vital areas. You can have a hand grenade but it doesn't do you any good if you don't use it properly!

If you do get pulled over by a cop and you have a CHL, you are supposed to hand over your CHL along with your DL AND tell the cop that you either are or are not carrying at that time.

Some banks do have signs up that forbid carrying a gun into their lobbies.

Having a CHL does have a downside as well. Lawyers WILL use it against you in court if you do in fact shoot someone and heaven forbid actually kill them. The prosecutor will state that you carry a CHL because you intented to use a gun to harm someone. If you do shoot someone in the head or in the heart, you will be drilled even harder by the prosecutor. The best defense is to NOT shoot to kill but rather to STOP the person.

Yes, the CHL classes are a joke. I took the one day course and there were way too many people in the class. The class was broken into two groups. The group I was with took the shooting qualification part first. There were two women in my group that couldn't hit the side of a barn if they were standing 5 feet in front of it. One of the graders (a woman) passed them and I heard her tell them that women need to look after one another. When I went to take the written test, I had at least 5 people looking over my shoulder to copy down my answers because they weren't paying attention in class and couldn't pass otherwise.

If you do take the course and you are active duty or ex-military, you do get a discount. Don't remember what it is since I took the class a while back.
