I'm stuck in Austin
I went out to a club last night and my purse was stolen. I have no id, credit card, nothing.
I can't get on the plane. I can't even get on a train or bus and I have no clue what to do. How do I get an ID?
If you have any ideas, I open to hearing them.

Go talk to the TSA. They will ask you some questions to confirm you identity and will allow you to board. Allow extra time for security / screening.

Hey, thanks for that lead. I travel quite a bit, once had my id/passport stolen, but that was before 9-11. I wondered how it would be handled now.
I just printed that letter out and will put it with my regular travel docs, just in case.

Do you have a passport or a Costco card? I know I've gotten on a plane several times with no ID with my Costco card, but that would probably be in your purse as well hmm. Call the airport first and ask them what you can do.

great info 78704, and it depends on the airport and your destination, I am just now returning this week from China, happened to me once, and you can either breeze through security or they will detain you forever. JFK, SFO are the worst. Good info, thanks again.

Oh Lawdy.. if ever there was a need for a  it's now!!! Our beloved Nico doesn't even drive guys.. and I hope I'm not the only one that read she's got NADA!! That means no way to even cover basic necessities like food, shelter, etc.
Nico, I don't drive myself, but if you need a place to crash til you resolve this I can offer a safe bedroom all to yourself. ~K

That TSA bunch is a little capricious and vary wildly on what they will and won't accept from agent to agent. I went through it over Christmas ......... I lost my wallet in 2007 and was able to fly from Houston to Austin with no trouble at all. I had even purchased the ticket less than 24 hours before the flight, which should have been a red flag of sorts. A few forms to sign and an extra screening with some wands.
