Dunno man.
Those ruger 22 auto have like 10-12+1.
Some scared babe able to rip
5 shots to face 5 to the privvies
in less than 15 seconds is pretty
effective at enabling quick egress.
Say what you will.
I know of no one who could
endure a repulse of that type
that just wouldn't want to flee
when the firing stopped.

Of course anyone who handles or carries a gun has to have
the proper training. I have no qualms about anyone in any situation
having a concealed weapon on them. However, I would never
bring one to an incall unless the lady was OK with it; would definitley
ask her permission.
If the incall is her private residence, she can most certainly have a weapon
there as it is allowed by the Texas Castle Law.

As far as a defensive caliber, I think 9mm or .38 Special should be a minimum. However, .380acp may work but they're usually a straight blowback action (as opposed to locked breech) which has a snappier recoil.
Higher pressure cartridges (.40s&w, 10mm, 9mm and .38 +P and +P+) will be harder to control but can be managed with practice.
I actually found .45 acp to be very easy to control due to it being a low pressure cartridge, even in a small light gun.
Regardless of what is chosen, practice is necessary..

Very Smart since a lot of meetings take place in a thin walled atmosphere. Once a bullet is fired you have no idea where it might end up whereas a shotgun has a less chance.
People don't go knocking 22 calibers, they are the deadliest guns around IMHO. You can get shot in the arm and that little slow moving bullet can ricochet right on up your arm. If shot in the chest that little guy can ricochet all around your rib cage and do some serious damage.

I just don't like to leave things to chance. Like the chance of that 22 semi automatic jamming. One 9mm hollow point will do just fine. The only gun that I'll need at a session is the one between my legs.

I would not want to see a provider w/a gun. I would not take a gun to see a provider. Ideal for a lady is a 9MM. Knock down power (W/jacketed hollow point) a little noise but not too bad recoil. Anything smaller would probably just piss the assailant off. 9MM is a standard round for NATO forces. US carries 9MM Baretta.

A lot of interesting comments, as has been said elsewhere "opinions vary". To the young lady who thinks it might be fun to unload her shotgun and play kinky games, "oh no you dint". Never ever mistake a firearm for a toy!!

I was going to stay clear of this topic, but then I too saw the shotgun comment.
I couldn't agree with you more, Mossman. In doing so, one would be breaking a very important gun safety rule, "Treat every weapon as though it is loaded."
Here is my advice. Before you even think of handling a firearm, get training. Professional training. Do not ask your dad or your uncle (unless they are NRA certified instructors). Do not listen to anyone else but these instructors. They will give you all of the rules, regulations, and legal obligations related to firearms handling procedures and legal ramifications.
There are several NRA certified instructors and businesses in San Antonio, just do a simple web search.

To tell you the truth, I have never given thought about one of our board members having a gun at her incall.
If I wanted to worry about a weapon I would visit some BP or MOCO lady.
The only thing I want excited and ready to go off in her hand is me.
I agree with MM and post-monkey, professional firearm training is best.

9mm have too much velocity. the round usually will just go clean thru. a 40 has better stopping power.
for those that don't think a .22 is enough .... think again. i have yet to convince someone (that says a 22 won't do anything but piss them off) to let me shoot them with a 22. A 22 will put enough hurt in someone to make them think twice about coming toward you for more.
i have a CC license but never carry. see no reason to. TX law now allows you to carry your handgun in the car without a CC license.
as for providers ... i think it would be a good idea to learn to shoot and keep one just in case. Or have at least a tazer.

I have an fn 5.7 pistol. holds twenty rounds. Has almost no recoil. twenty rounds has plenty of knock down power
