Default Port Wines... what's your pick and why?

Yesterday at an upscale restaurant, I inquired about the ports available on the wine list and selected (from a very limited list) the Taylor Fladgate 20 Year Port. It was the oldest they had. It was served in a glass at a much smaller than expected portion. I'm guessing the glass had only about two ounces of wine in it (if that) rather than 4 which is what I was expecting. I swirled it around a bit and admired the deep amber color as opposed to the standard red color I'm used to seeing! It was sweet but much to my surprise and delight, it was far less acidic than expected!

At two ounces per glass, that is just a taste in my opinion, not a glass. So I'll pass on wasting $15 again. But I went to a fine wine retailer in San Antonio and picked up a bottle of that 20 year old port as well as the 30 year old Taylor Fladgate as well. Have any of you tried them? I'm quite excited to open one of these and try drinking a much larger portion than the measly two ounces at 15 dollars.

I don't drink wine (for the main reason my palate is uneducated.)
But from what i've read by critics, the price they charge for such a small serving is outrageous. So much so, critics say it really isn't in bad taste to request a more civil serving to the squat one placed in front of you for the bloated asking price.

I must admit I am not a great fan of ports. This being a brandy fortified wine. I have had the occasional one I considered acceptable. I prefer old world reds of substantial vintage. However, I would be happy to investigate your vintage and publish my observations on such.

I am always happy to meet & have meaningfukk discourse with able to use those powers fis good'!

Yeah that sounds great. I'm going on a business trip for a week, but when I get back I'll bring out a bottle of my Taylor Fladgate 20, and you bring a bottle of your favorite red. I look forward to learning whatever I can.

Val Verde Winery has a Tawney Port that won some medals years back. Oldest winery in Texas it may be of interest to you.

Not sure of where to find it up here but I am guessing the winery is still making it. Can't they be shipped now?

Sorry so vauge I am not a wine drinker but am familiar with this winery. Thought the medals and the history may intrigue you.

That sounds great. I'll have to check it out when I get back too. Gives me something to look forward to.
