Starting to hear some real down to earth concerns. I like that. I believe the thinking behind making everyone have insurance is that because of federal law a hospital has to treat you weather you have it or not in emergency situations. In turn they end up with the bill. When I didn't have insurance it wasn't because I didn't want it, it was because I could afford it. If it were cheaper I would have gotten it. The fine which some people have gotten up in arms about I heard and I'm not positive on this but it is around 55 dollars that is paid when you file income taxes in April. But like any bill things can change I don't see any dem or republician saying that to low. But by totally separate law your employer has to offer insurance to you if they have over a certain number of employees. And if they would think it better to pay the fine they better hope it isn't a slow news week, ask AIG about bonuses

John McCain did not go back to VOTE on it. He went back to help deal with the situation. Obama followed suit.

The Democrats took over control of both the House and the Senate in the November 2006 elections. They passed the legislation. Bush signed it because he was told that it had to be done or else the country was going to go under immediately, but this was DEMOCRAT legislation, brought forward by Dems and approved by the Dem majority.

The Obama campaign changed its strategy by strongly calling for the passage of the bailout with a single phrase: “Get it done”. Echoing the House GOP’s call during weekend negotiations, Obama called for raising the federal deposit insurance coverage on bank deposits from $100,000 to $250,000 for each individual. That afternoon, Obama stated in a speech that this is a moment of national emergency in which the parties must come together to pass a bailout package immediately.

Obama’s move into the middle of the bailout deal was a shift from his campaign’s prior strategy over the previous two weeks to stay away from direct, specific support for the bailout deal. Obama was making his move to the center on the bailout to appear presidential in a time of crisis and as leading the charge to a solution.

From the NY Times - http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/22/yo...veryone&st=nyt

"Although most Americans who do not obtain health insurance would face a federal penalty starting in 2014, many experts question how strict the enforcement of that penalty would actually be.

The first year, consumers who did not have insurance would owe $95, or 1 percent of income, whichever is greater. But the penalty would subsequently rise, reaching $695, or 2 percent of income."

That means that someone earning $40,000 a year will be fined $400 the first year and $800 the second year. People earning more will have to pay more in fines. But, and here's the kicker, it's not considered a "fine" but a tax. The IRS is now in charge of collecting this tax. Failure to pay it can result in a fine up to $250,000 and/or jail time.

Beginning in 2014, under the reconciliation plan, firms with more than 50 employees must offer health care to employees or pay penalties of up to $2,000 per employee for all but the first 30 workers.

My insurance is over $2,000 a year. Women cost more to insure than men. A $2000 fine is LESS than what most companies pay for premiums per year per employee. They will save money by not offering insurance and paying the fine.

Average cost to a large company to have health insurance is from 10,000 to 15,000 depending on the empolyees family size. That's all benefits included. Hell, I'd pay the fine every time and they will. The Dems are already plannning a new bill with the public option in it, so empolyers will be able to drop thier coverage and make even more money.
I imagine the way the IRS will collect the TAX (fine) is if you get a refund they will just take it out of it.

this health care bill is just more big government. another way to let them into your lives. If you are already on some sort of government assistance(3rd generation welfare) thanks L.Jhonson , you don't care you just think your going to get more but if you are useing it for whats it was supposed to set up for temporary to get a lift while you were down to find a new line of work, great. I don't want some IRS agent walking into my business makeing sure i supply health care and say oh buy the way lets check this and this . I pay my taxes way to much already don't need anymore but there will be for all of us, to pay for this. But some won't because they rather have the government take care of them whie they paly dominos and drink beer on the corner all day( i see it every day).
I served my country and bleed for my country for what we live for freedom, that is wasteing away now little by little. We can make a difference in November with our votes and get ride of all of them. Rember all we are talking about on this thread in November and lets make a difference in November.

Default Four Words, Sorely Lacking in the USA Today

Personal Responsibility & Self Reliance !!

Those four words (or lack of) define most of the social problems in all of Western Civilization!

Of Course..... that's only My Opinion....

Those words were what built this country and those are the words that CAN bring it back. BUT, as Bassmaster said, those that won't work and are the third generation on "Public Assistance" also vote and they are not unhappy about this mess. As has also been said elsewhere in this thread, when have you ever seen any spending program repealed by any party???

I have a daughter that is studying to become a Nurse Practitioner and she thinks the country is going in the correct direction. I am afraid that she is in for a rude awakening.

God help and Bless the USA for I love her.

I'm not sure about that... I think Alimony is more like a Fine or Life Sentence for Stupidity!

"Alimony, a Latin term for removing a man's wallet through his genitals." - Robin Williams

Since it's a surgical procedure, it might be covered under the new Health Care Plan?

half of the U.S. budget is loaded with entitlements. why do you suppose that is....????

I'll get raked over the coals for saying this, anyone on govt. dole and contracts shouldn't be allowed to vote in federal elections.

You would deny the vote to disabled veterans & military retirees, retired cops, etc?
