Well...I'll definitely be in town for Mardi Gras, seeing as I live here...I'd love to join in on a girls' night

Any advice about staying safe? I already heard not to bring a purse and not have my phone out/visable. Not to try to join the marching bands. And no titty flashing in "family areas". I'm looking for tips from some Mardi Gras veterans and I know you all are out there!!

Weird...I have actually been IN the marching bands (in the past couple years even!) and I haven't had a problem!
I don't titty flash at all. Then again, I don't do Bourbon St. during Mardi Gras. Too much of a clusterfuck.
If you're planning on going out with friends: Really, the only advice I can give is to just BE AWARE of your surroundings. It's easy to get carried away, but really TRY to pace yourself, alcohol-wise. Don't try to park anywhere near where you want to be, because you ain't gonna find a spot, lol. Have a game plan--it's hard to be spontaneous when 80% of the city, plus a SHITLOAD of tourists, is concentrated in one area (and about half of them have brought their cars to said area). This sounds like logistics, but it's about safety, too. You don't want to get stuck somewhere, drunk and confused about where to go/what to do. If at all possible, bring either a Designated Driver or someone who knows the area, the plan, and their alcohol limit, so that that person can take charge if everyone else is wasted.
I'm lucky because I live right outside the quarter, haha. Too bad all my favorite parades are on the Uptown routes
But I might be marching in some of them again this year; I haven't decided.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, carry toilet paper with you. Napkins, tissues, whatever. There will NOT be any in the bathrooms downtown. And don't wear heels.
