Default An American & Texas Legend....RIP Fess Parker

I didn't know he was a Texan until i read today's stories, but evidently Fess was born in Ft. Worth, lived in Abilene (& attended Hardin Simmons) & moved to Austin & attended UT. (& even if he moved to california, his portrayal of Davy Crockett makes him forever a Texan.)

Most of you probably don't know of him, but for those born prior to 1960, Fess was "The Man". So did anybody else wear a coonskin cap in their youth?

From all of Texas & from every guy in my generation.....RIP Fess.

I couldn't believe he was almost knifed to death in a road rage incident in the 40's or 50's. Fess Parker is 6'6"....that other guy musta been one bad sum bitch!!........I'll bet his name was Leroy Brown.

Wish I still had my "original" coonskin cap today. Might be worth some $$$.

Default coonskin caps and whatnot

I don't know what happened to my coonskin cap, and the 45 rpm record is long gone, but the song is still etched in the back of my head ....

"Davy, Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier!"

Great childhood memory.

I had forgotten that Buddy Ebsen was his sidekick, until I saw the article in the paper this morning. Another great one.

regards,
russ

I had the coon skin cap and my grand dad attached a coon tail on my hunting knife sheath ........ Fess Parker was "da Man" ....... pretty good role model for young boys ........ are you sure he wasn't born on a mountain top in Tennessee Durango?

RIP FESS PARKER ...... and thanks for all the entertainment

That was Ed Ames who portrayed Mingo. Everyone must remember the classic tomahawk throwing segment from the Johnny Carson Show.

Extra points if you remember "Big Mike Fink" King of the River.....

I knew Fess Parker more as "Daniel Boone" first and later as "Davy Crockett".
He was excellent in both roles, loved watching those shows in re-runs as a kid.
Portrayed them both with a sense of nobility, adventure and bravery that really made you admire them. He was the embodiment of the king of the wild frontier.

To me he will always be the definitive Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett no matter who has portrayed them since or in the future.

BTW did you know "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" was number 1 on the pop charts for 3 months.
