Pure unadulterated Capitalism is Tyranny.
Do you not understand that Pure Capitalism leads to Crony Capitalism and to big to fail?
What you seem to have trouble grasping is that the best form of government is a combination of both Capitalism and Socialism. With the fall of the Soviet Union, Capitalism lost all forms of its checks and balances. Big business has dominated workers since Reagan broke the airline traffic controllers and it has continued right up to the Citizens United Supreme Court decision.

Sweatshops are not capitalistic. There are more sweatshops in fascist and communist countries than there ever were in the US, back when we were a free country.
Of course, pure capitalism cannot exist, but the closer we get to it, the more freedom we have. There is no tyranny in capitalism, because it is based on consumer knowledge and free choice. Man, you guys should have taken my economics class.
Yes, capitalism can deteriorate to crony capitalism and fascism. We have proven that here in the US. If we hadn't shredded our Constitution, we would have a better chance of reversing the trend. As it stands now, I don't think there is any turning back from the police state we are becoming, or already have become. That is why our Founders tried to put this country on the firm base of law, not democracy. As we become more democratic, we become less free.

You answer your own question.
Do you understand the Tragedy of the Commons?
Your economics prof was a short term thinker. Business thinks in terms of profits, quarterly profits at that...All nations topple, despite the best of intentions. Our founding fathers were a bunch of folks looking out for themselves. Nothing special there!

Hey DOUBLE DUMBASS (that's you Marshall) read the rest of my post:
"If you stop using labels and focus on what people do, you may get a clearer picture of what is going on rather than casting blame through slogans at chimeras."
I don't need insults from an internet lout and troll like you to get the point that politicians adopt false, indefinite labels and make impossible promises to get elected.
I don't know if you consider yourself a conservative, but if name calling and casting insults is part of being a true conservative, then they are sorry and dangerous bunch much akin with the Brown Shirts who so effectively killed political discussion in Germany. I hope that you are an aberration and your insulting manner is the product of deep character flaws rather than being indicative of any political movement (other than neo-Fascism).
Have a nice day wallowing in your bile.

Because fascist and communist countries had more of them, ours didn't count?

This is absolutely absurd. Pollyanna-ish, but absurd. Corporations are absolutely 100% willing (even eager) to oppress, and consumers are 100% willing to go along with it if it means cheaper goods and services.
Not only do you want people working for $2/hr, you want to exacerbate the problem by requiring those same people to fend for themselves when they get old. All in the name of "freedom".
Be proud.

WTF, LOL! I WAS the econ professor!
Doove, you're idiocy is showing again. You set up a straw man, knock him down, and think you outsmarted me. As long as it makes you happy.
What really disturbs me is how many of you don't like capitalism. What system is better?

Quoting Ayn Rand as the champion of Capitalism is absolutely one of the funniest and most hypocritical things I've ever seen. She died on the Government Teat...
... of lung cancer after scoffing at warnings about tobacco use!
While she decried Medicare, she authorized her attorney to apply for and receive both Social Security and Medicare payments on her behalf using her married name of Ann O'Connor, a fact verified by the law firm she used and by the former director of communications of the Ayn Rand Institute, Scott McConnell.
Just one of MANY sources (Change the comma after www to a period): http://www,alternet.org/teaparty/149...e_needed_them/
Mama, don't let your heroes grow up to be hypocrites.

I'll admit to corrupting some young ladies, though not as many as I tried to corrupt, but they got good info from me in Econ class.
