that is not what the tea folks want according to their actions. They want the status quo. Look at the people they back. Nothing big there. The only person for drastic change is ron paul. The tea folks are not backing him. They hate his foriegn policy. They hate his stance on drugs. They will not support him so really anyone who thinks the tea folks are for small government has not seen who or what they actually support

There were more than enough $70,000 and $80,000 houses in this country that could have been sold to people.
Blaming Carter, or Clinton, or whomever seems utterly ridiculous.

I think you are confusing the ESTABLISHMENT assholes who've co-opted the Tea Party with the original intent of the PEOPLE who started the movement.

So, the people who didn't move to the communities where they could find those houses are geniouses or something along those lines? Or did they take advantage of the LAWS that regulated the banks into giving those loans.
If you really think about it, allowing those McMansion loans to fly out the door created a demand bubble that inflated housing values. Then the DEREGULATION, via the repeal of Glass-Steagal, ala, Clinton w/an R congress, allowed the banks to become "too big to fail".
Had gvmt stayed out of the way in the first place, we wouldn't have had the housing bubble, nor the "too big to fail" industries they are now "trying" to reign in.
The Original Tea Party was opposed to bail outs and wanted those "too big to fail" banks to fail. It was the gvmt who coined that phrase and the gvmt who bailed them out. Yes, it may have been bad for the economy for a short term, but we wouldn't be in the mess we are in now. And don't say it was all Bushes fault, BO ran back to DC to vote FOR, not against, the bail outs. He's just as responsible.

Like you I see the inconsistancies and wish everyone would see what is obvious to me but they are a big step in the right direction. I am libertarian and believe in a lot of what Ron Paul says. I have some concerns about is foreign policy opinions but those are just concerns that need more clarification. As for the drug issue I think using them is dumb but people have the right to be stupid. All the money spent on the war on drugs with all of the horrible side effects is a waste. You are right in that Ron Paul will not win but he is getting a lot of support and the guy that follows him will inherit that support and get more over time. The support Ron Paul and Herman Cain are getting is a good indicator that people are tired of the same old BS. This is the beginning of a big change. Focus on getting libertarian leaning people in Congress. That is where the change has to start.

No one said to put people out on the street. Most people who are foreclosing can find a smaller apartment to live in and the monthly payment will be less than their mortgage payment. It is all about lowered expectations. Half a century ago our parents and grandparents saved to buy a house. They put money aside so when they went to purchase they could put down 20%. For the last several years we have had people thinking that they deserve to have a house right away. The government made if possible but not too practical. TV had a plethora of home shows that promised that you could get rich on home flipping. There was no need to save or sacrifice and as long as there was no economic downtown (nationally or personally) you could make money and have a nice house.
Reminds me of a cartoon I saw several years ago. The strip was Foxtrot and the youngest child is a genius (he is about 12) and he goes to his dad to borrow $10,000. His speechless dad asks what does he need that kind of money for and he tells him to invest. He goes on to tell his dad that everyone wins in the stock market. He'll invest the money and in a couple of years he will pay his dad back. This was a couple of months before the tech bubble burst. I think too many young people thought that this was normal. Now they know the truth and have heard about risk.

And without the establishment assholes who co-opted it, nobody would have ever heard of it. Think what you want, but your views are not that popular.
You people remind me of the Howard Stern supporters of old. You know, the people who would call, say, Larry King and out of nowhere throw out a reference to Howard Stern before being cut off, making them seem like they were all over the place. Like them, you ain't.

Not sure what your point is. I'm only making the point that while the laws may have encouraged banks to give loans, they didn't require the banks to give loans to people which they couldn't be expected to pay back. There were, surely, more than an adequate number of affordable homes they could have provided loans for.
Don't blame the laws for the banks' capitalistic greed.

It is a really tough sell to tell people who are already suffering that they should just lower their expectations.
Too many things were done wrong mainly by the previous administration and then only exacerbated by the wanton greed of big business.
I opposed the idiotic war in Iraq from day one which has cost this country over a trillion dollars and thousands of lives of brave soldiers and President Obama was one of the very few voices in Washington that opposed the war too.
That cowboy played right into Osama Bin Ladin's hands and gave him the perfect recruitment tool while wasting our country's treasure on a war that never should have been fought.
If that fortune had been wisely invested in our country's economy instead of a foolish war, we would be doing much better and the people protesting on the street would instead be happily at work.
Now we are where we are and the only prudent thing to do is to dig ourselves out of the deep hole that Bush left us in.
President Obama is bringing the troops home by the end of this year and that gives me hope, but the GOP candidates want a "longer time-line" to end the tragic episode?

I disagree with damn near everything Doove says except for now. On this he is correct which is why the banks should have benn allowed to fail. In most cases they probably would have just lost a lot of money for a while. Bad decisions bad results - tough.

The only way a free market system fails is when the Government tries to fix it. Now those banks that were to big to fail are even bigger they bought smaller banks with the bail out money. Example Wells Fargo bought Wachovia.

look if the people that started it still ran it, I would still be behind it. They do not, therefore they are just another group looking out for their own best interest. Nothing wrong with that but the people they support are not small government guys

One funny side note that's happened now is that the actual homeless people of NYC have now come into the OWS camp to get the food being served to the protesters. Seems the homeless want their "fair share". Gee, I wonder what the protesters think about that?? Sorta like having the shoe on the other foot; the ones protesting about "not having" are being pursued by those who REALLY don't have anything.
And now that summer's gone and there's been snow there, I can't help but wonder how long the protesters are willing to hang in there through the cold weather. I'd bet they'll be gone by Christmas, or at least take a Christmas break before going back to protesting again. Hmmm, I wonder what Santa will bring them?

I like your points and that - i might add - is also why i do think the middle class that protests now, is a bit hypocritical. The problem was there before as well . They protest a system they chose to be part of, and are now the ones where it does not work anymore. So, question is: how many of these protestors have been thinking about these issues when it was not affecting them personally? It`s a middle class riot, so to speak. A friend of mine told me that the poor in the USA are paralyzed to demonstrate , and the middle class diminishing. I think these are factors to consider as well.

That is interesting given the amount of really really good homeless shelters in NYC or churches who give out food (i even read a report on couchsurfing about this as well)

OWS Is Nothing Like The Tea Party....
Here is the RAP sheet for the OWS crowd....
What is true is that on October 18, pollster Doug Schoen (a Democrat!) discovered that a full 31% of Occupiers were willing to commit violence in pursuit of their agenda, whatever that is. As a response to this startling and frightening admission, the MSM either outright ignored or dismissed it. What you’ll see below proves that at least when it comes to their willingness to break the law, the Occupiers are keeping their word.
The list is in no particular order. Like the Occupiers themselves, it’s unruly, disorganized, messy and not focused solely on the nation’s media centers. The movement is spreading across America and bringing with it their outrageous and appalling behavior.
