Who said there was anything wrong with any of those activities? Next time Dallas plays a home game, take notice of how many people are talking, using a cell phone, or are wearing a gimee hat during the National Anthem. Since the Metro-plex is overwhelmingly republican, it is likely a similar proportion of the offenders are said same. But who cares? It's their loss, not mine. I would rather that anyone who didn't want to, not join in the singing. Nothing worse than someone having to pretend to feel a certain way, for whatever reason or purpose.

Why? Because the Democrats know what this recent study, by 3 prestigous Univerisities know:
According to a study conducted by the University of Chicago, Cornell University and Hebrew University, even a brief glimpse of the American flag shifts voters to Republican attitudes and beliefs.
Even the voting behavior of Democrats are affected, the study found.
Whats more, US News and World Report says the "the impact had staying power," according to the study's three authors.
Paul Bedard writes: "A single exposure to an American flag resulted in a significant increase in participants' Republican voting intentions, voting behavior, political beliefs, and implicit and explicit attitudes, with some effects lasting 8 months," the study found. "These results constitute the first evidence that nonconscious priming effects from exposure to a national flag can bias the citizenry toward one political party and can have considerable durability."

years run by so it was quite a few years ago, some friends wanted to go to a series of boxing matches held in san antonio put on by don king, so being amiable, i went along.
the event was held in the alamodome, quite a full house.
since the main event was between a boxer from mexico and a boxer from the u.s. the national anthem of mexico was played and then the u.s. national anthem.
during the mexican national anthem, you could have heard a pin drop, heart felt teary-eyed wistful singing in spanish rebounded off every bit of construction material that would deflect sound.
when it came time for our national anthem, shuffling, talking, sitting, willful disrespect and otherwise blitheful disregard abounded.
now a few were perhaps actually from mexico and were returning to mexico, but in my opinion, only a few.

I'm retired military, used to very patriotic...until George W and his cronies took over the government. And to think I voted for him in 2000 the AWOL shit hole bastard. Now the teabaggers and religious nuts have taken over W's place and things keep getting worse!
I guess since the W idiots, the religious freaks and teabaggers like to wrap themselves up in the American flag and declare themselves "pariots", I like to keep as far away from them as I possibly can and I guess that labels me as "unpatriotic."

Since most voting locations have a flag, how did Obama win? So flags kept it from being a total landslide? And it lasted for 8 months, not 4 or 12?

When I see a flag the last thing that comes to mind is thinking republican. Since Rove made using symbols part of election strategy and attached republican patriotism to it, and the un-patriotic label to dems or those who didn't prominently show them, then the age of the participants must be young. I doubt through the years, since the founding fathers, did they display flags from their homes or pins outside of elections.

An entire group of people so sure that Jesus is coming they think it's cool to tear up the entire globe and wait for his return in the destruction they created for themselves. Has anyone ever thought that hell is what's left over after we destroy everything else?
I'm just not proud of the way that we act sometimes, and I suppose I have to include myself in the bunch....but sometimes I do wish I could separate myself from it when I'm ashamed of the way that we act. That doesn't mean I don't love my country. I just don't like the way some us act.
S&L scandals, robbing people's retirement funds, predatory lending ... all regulated into law and then left in place and allowed to ruin people's lives.
Oil spill in the gulf - researchers are still not allowed to enter many areas in the coastal estuaries but the gov't is calling it 'cleaned up'. Covered up maybe - but cleaned up? No...
I believe in the second amendment. I want to protect myself and I know we have to protect ourselves. Whether I agree with where the troops get sent I'll always support them. I know they are made up mostly of kids who just want to get to college and defend their country doing it.
Tax credits for the rich and the corporations, the biggest deficit due to that and then blame it on the next president when there's a budget shortfall. Horrible education system. We pay more taxes than almost any other country. What's wrong with asking for basic healthcare? I don't think we get a good deal for our money in the US. We have a right to complain about it.

WORD!
Thank you, Amusemeant! Hear! Hear!
I edited the above just to condense it and reemphasize many of the terrific points you made.
The People who CALL themselves "conservatives" have been some of the most fiscally LIBERAL people who ever voted and now they are drawing a meaningless line in the sand that could wreck the slowly recovering economy. It is a "straw man ultimatum" without question and could be undertaken in a far more constructive and timely manner. Even Clinton gave us a surplus with only slightly higher taxes.
WTF, perhaps the reason I don't like MANY of the so-called patriotic symbols is because I've checked on how many are made in China and imported here by corporations who dodge American taxes while they also outsource more jobs than they will ever create here in the United States. I proudly wear American flag lapel pins on my caps and on my sport coats and I fly the flag in front of my house on every appropriate occasion but Goddamnit, the trinkets that are made in China, Mexico, India or Malaysia and have contributed to the loss of American jobs are NOT going to steal MY money and I'm damned sure not going to allow them to represent MY country for me.
They belong in the TRASH and I firmly believe Betsy Ross would most certainly approve!
You can choose to reward the corporations who destroy our infrastructure and lay off workers and pay lobbyists to keep middle class wages at no more than they were 15 years ago if you want to. Thankfully, it is STILL a free country no matter how many fiscal disasters YOUR "conservative" candidates have voted to allow to serve up to their corporate owners.
With the Citizens United decision, YOUR "conservatives" and "tea party patriots" have opened the flood gates to a quick downhill slide toward corporate rule! (Damn! The word 'patriots' is hard to type next to the modern Tea Party)
Here is the heart of how I feel:
If Liberals Really Hated America
They Would Vote For
Republicans or the Tea Party
I see none of the regulations over corporations that are direly needed to stop the corporate enslavement of the country according to Liberals or in Thomas Jefferson's last political statement below.
Thomas Jefferson's last written political statement issued shortly after illness forced him to miss speaking at and attending a July 4th celebration:
“May (July 4) be to the world, what I believe it will be -- to some parts sooner, to others later, but finally to all -- the signal of arousing men to burst the chains under which monkish ignorance and superstition had persuaded them to bind themselves, and to assume the blessings and security of self-government. That form (of government) which we have substituted, restores the free right to the unbounded exercise of reason and freedom of opinion. All eyes are opened, or opening, to the rights of man. The general spread of the light of science has already laid open to every view the palpable truth, that the mass of mankind has not been born with saddles on their backs, nor a favored few booted and spurred, ready to ride them legitimately, by the grace of God.”
Just a side note - Americans for Prosperity is the fake front group that paid for most of the buses and directly funded Glenn Beck's two Washington marches. They also helped fund the stealing of the Tea Party from Ron Paul's supporters in order to distance themselves from the 2006 Republican election losses.
AFP gets a giant amount of its money from charitable foundations run by the two sons of one of the twelve founders of the John Birch Society, Fred Koch!
The John Birch Society was so far right that they were actually called an extension of the Nazi Party and the senior Koch was from Nazi Germany. The John Birch Society even preached that one of the greatest Republican Presidents in modern times and the one responsible for our Interstate Highway System, Dwight D. Eisenhower, was a Communist! The Koch brothers make George Soros look like a piker!

Every site had all of those things, just like you said.
When you got there you pushed to the front and demanded your rights. And with a giggle, you just bent over and later claimed, "You were just using your ass to read his brail greeting of the day, located on the front of his thighs."
When you said, "Thank you sir, may I have another!” not one person was surprised. Not conservatives, not liberals, not democrats, not republicans.
What surprised everybody was you not asking for a third.

I served in the military, as did my father and his father before that. My family has a proud history of military service that dates back to the American Revolution and includes the Texas Revolution. Many of my friends have served and are currently serving in the military and most share my values. My son leaves for boot camp in a month knowing he will likely be put in harms way. I would ask that you take a moment and consider that while also considering the difference between "Social Conscience" and Socialism. For the love of God, turn off Fox news and actually learn some history instead of taking some pundits word for it. And FYI, you meant "their", not "there" and your point is most decidedly disproven.

Any time I see the words Liberal and Conservatives, it's a losing argument and not worth of a response. To Conservatives anyone who doesn't think like them 100% is a flaming liberal and to Liberals anyone who doesn't think like them 100% is a right wing conservative. Neither one leaves room for the moderates, whom by the way are the majority in this country. I know, I've heard the statistic that most Americans consider themselves Conservatives, but that's just because they tend to align more with certain Conservative values but are not necessarily right wing Conservatives as some of the Conservative media would like you to think.

The question is how many conservatives understand patriotic symbols.
