I believe Law and Justice are two separate issues. I've sat on several panels and yes they can be quite flawed. Another issue is the Law as written in Fl., presentation of evidence prosecutor's statement and production of evidence and the defense's rebuttal and challenging of evidence.
The bottom line is "beyond a reasonable doubt".

I believe that they are one and the same as general concepts.

It is just that individuals perceive an expected or desired result as "justice" without considering that the general application of "the law" to factual circumstances result in Justice for all in our society and not just a selected few based upon a desired result by a few, or even a majority.

In the past 10 years or so the media has convicted a number of people in sensational cases that turned out to be innocent ... and I mean INNOCENT. That was not "Justice" at all...for those unjustly accused.

Good post and points. When it comes to the Law, it is the Law as defined and enacted by legislatures and the Law must/shall be followed (but we see that it applied selectively in some instances). Frequently where problems manifest themselves is that when the Laws are drafted they are frequently imperfect or have unintended consequences or seem contradictory or in opinion violate the Constitution, say for instance the mandatory blood draw for suspect DUI, does this violate the 5th Amendment? I would say yes, others would say no.
I believe Justice to be a concept that Laws are created for to protect a society.
I also think the concept of Justice in our society is a floating point based on individual opinion or general consensus.
Regarding the media you hit the nail on the head. This is an interesting thread and I could go on but I'm pooped.

you know, what happened if she duct taped the little girls mouth and locked her outside. in an attempt to get the duct tape off, the little girl wandered over to the water and fell in and drowned. in a panic, she freaked out and tried to hide it, knowing that she would suffer the death penalty. bad mother? abso-fucking-lutely. guilty of child abuse and neglect, absolutely (and those charges stuck). guilty of murder? no.

it seems everyone is looking for someone to "hang" without given much non-emotional thought to the matter. throwing in the quip "well what does the daughter have to say about all of this" doesn't add any more credence to the point "she's guilty of murder".

anyway, i'm just showing another view on how the justice system actually works if you don't tie in the emotion. if she makes money on book deals you can guarantee she'll lose some civil lawsuits! once again, the justice system does work.

then again, wtf do i know.

I believe "this one" was found not guilty of child abuse. Save the rope.
