He should probably be the leading Republican candidate for the nomination unless he's deemed too liberal.

The klans roots are deep in the southern democratic party; it was a Republican president who emancipated, a republican majority who overwhelminglty voted in favor of the 1964 civil rights act (by a wide margin), and a republican party who is trying to protect the unborn from slaughter.

You ever heard of a Dixiecrat?

The Dixiecrats had little short-run impact on politics. However, they did have a long-term impact. The Dixiecrats began the weakening of the Democratic Party's total control of presidential elections in the Deep South. The 1948 campaign laid the foundation, at first in presidential voting only, for the creation of a two-party region. Finally, the Dixiecrats, especially Strom Thurmond (Senator from 1954 to 2003) initiated a national political dialog on the dangers of an expansive federal government that threatened "local control." This theme was picked up by southern Republicans, who became a major element in the national GOP by the 1990s.[2]

Well said WTF ... BTW Whirlaway its of little or no consequence the name of the political party (republicans/democrats). It has more to do with which policies and social stances that are supported.

If one's political ideology consistentely, and without conscious, undermines what has been called the "middle class" aka "the working poor" in order to provide more tax breaks to wealthy people and corporations, you call them "a can of Cling Peaches". It simply doesn't matter what they are called its more important what they do.

As for David Duke possibly running for President ... I wouldn't go so far as to say that all conservatives are racist, but I will say that all racists are conservatives.

Reminds me of the famous quote from John Stuart Mill:

I never meant to say that the Conservatives are generally stupid. I meant to say that stupid people are generally Conservative. I believe that is so obviously and universally admitted a principle that I hardly think any gentleman will deny it.

So you are saying Louis Farrakhan is guaranteed to endorse and vote for David Duke? Interesting theory, but let’s wait and see how that plays out.

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery. ~ Winston Churchill

You are right.

If you remove the Klan issue, Southern Democrats were much better conservatives than the current republican batch. Although the current batch could fund the Klan better than the Democrats did.

When you follow the bouncing ball of political actions, the ball is the philosophy, not the party name.
