Liberals really can't handle the truth!!

Watching people deny things that are obviously and indisputably true is absolutely fascinating to me. It’s like watching your female co-worker convincing herself that the married guy she’s hooking up with is going to get a divorce; or your roommate from college tell you he always wins when goes to Vegas; or the nuts who still don’t believe it was an airplane that hit the Pentagon on 9/11.

As the great H. L. Mencken observed 100 years ago, “Believing passionately in the palpably not true... is the chief occupation of mankind.”

And a month or so ago, they were working overtime.

There is simply no denying that Islam has a problem with terrorism, a problem that no major religion currently has.

Yet we spent last month watching pundit after pundit deny that Islam has a terrorism problem, insisting that “every religion has the same problem,” claiming that the KKK today is just as big a terror threat as radical Islam, etc—it was insane. You’re right: the people making these obviously idiotic claims are too smart to believe them.

But somehow they do.

Believe it or not, there have been even crazier claims made in public last month by “serious-minded” people.

Charles Krauthammer has a fantastic takedown of the claim by the Obama administration that Social Security isn’t in any trouble, because the “trust fund” is fully funded for another 26 years.

But as Krauthammer proves beyond debate—and as every rational person knows—THERE IS NO SOCIAL SECURITY TRUST FUND. It doesn’t exist.

The Social Security trust fund is a fiction.
If you don't believe me, listen to the OMB's own explanation (in the Clinton administration budget for fiscal 2000 under then-Director Jack Lew, the very same). The OMB explained that these trust fund "balances" are nothing more than a "bookkeeping" device. "They do not consist of real economic assets that can be drawn down in the future to fund benefits."
In other words, the Social Security trust fund contains - nothing.

Once again—who can deny this obvious truth? But President Obama is denying it right now. This isn’t fiscal stupidity, it’s fiscal insanity.

Speaking of which, Jonah Goldberg had his own terrific column one day last month (good day in the press for conservative columnists) on the crazy claims Democrats are making in the current budget fight:

In October, Pelosi said that every dollar spent on unemployment benefits and food stamps puts another $1.79 into economy. “It is the biggest bang for the buck when you do food stamps and unemployment insurance.”
If that were true, why not drop bags of cash from C-130s over the unemployed and poor?

These are crazy claims. Who can even pretend to take them seriously? It’s like the $500 billion ObamaCare was going to use to save Medicare, while using the same $500 billion to provide more health care services. The Obama administration has now admitted they were double-counting the same dollars. Does it matter that this is impossible? That the claim is nonsensical?

Apparently not.

Believing nonsense is the first step to believing in liberalism.

Has anyone other than me noticed all the recent stories concerning the Obamma Effect? It seems all the business he visits for speeches are shuttered and out of business within a year. Talk about the kiss of death!
