Where were you and what were you doing when the American Hockey Team won the Miracle on Ice?

Was this a special moment for you? Did you feel you were a part of it? I was in a dorm lobby and we were glued to the TV. With the way things were going in the country, it seemed to create a tremendous sense of hope even though at the time I knew no one personally that played hockey. Until that time the greatest feat at the winter Olympics was when Franz Claumer went balls to the wall four years earlier in the downhill and he wasn't even an American.

In a bar on the "strip" Cumberland Avn. Knoxville Tenn. It was a wild drunk fest!

OK, I'm assuming you mean the defeat of the Russians, and not the actual gold medal game. We were living in an apartment complex and I was glued to the TV. It was a mild day and lots of folks had their windows open. I could hear cheering from neighboring buildings each time the U.S. scored, and of course at the end.

In a college dorm in northern MN, enjoying a few cold ones while watching the game, agree with you Oden, Franz Klammer's downhill was something to see.

I vaguely remember it. At that time the drinking age in TX was 18 and I spent most of my time in a drunken haze. I believe we were having a party and trashing my place at the time.

I do remember the downhill run by Klammer as well and it was wild.

Actually close enough to walk outside right after the final siren and hear the celebration beginning that went on through the night..

I was an Active Duty PJ and our unit from Plattsburgh AFB 30 miles to the NE was assigned air-evac responsibility for the entire Olympics. Once packaged - any injured participant or anyone else for that matter - was flown to either Plattsburgh, Burlington, Albany or even Montreal.

Instead of our Jolly Greens (HH-53s - too much noise in avalanche prone areas like Whiteface Mountain) ==> we used our UH-1 Huey (slicks) choppers. Two birds were assigned and deployed to a hanger near the entrance to the Lake Placid Airport which was right around a mile from the village.

We watched the game on television like millions around the world and then went outside to engage in the festivities a short walk away. After all ==> PJs to this day are kinda known for how shall I say this delicately-----getting involved.

I watched it with my hockey team...we had a game earlier that day and then gathered at one of the parents' houses for pizza, and a little outdoor scrimmaging on the pond etc.
