The genisus of this thread was Marshall's Wal Mart posting; typical of the nutty left, when they are losing the agruements, they change the discussion.

TTH, and others are now asking us to believe that Obamacare is a legislative victory for individual rights in America !

As Marshall would say "Ha" !

Next these loons will be arguing that the TSA patdowns are required and necessary to guarantee our human dignity and preseve our individual civil rights.

Another thread hijack by the wingnut liberals at ECCIE.

Only the people on the right call it socialized medicine. Like they call progressive taxation "communism". Doesn't mean that's what it actually is.

Only auto liability insurance is required to protect other people....you don't have to insure for your own potential losses.....
Perfect argument for the mandate. The mandate isn't designed to protect the insured from loss. It's designed to protect doctors and hospitals from loss. Wasn't it Reagan who signed the law requiring ER's to provide treatment even if the person can't pay? Thought so.

Quote:
auto insurance is not mandatory!....you don't have to drive.
No, you don't. But if you put yourself in a position where you might need it, you're required to have it. And unfortunately, simply being alive is being in a position to potentially need health insurance. In fact, i'm willing to bet that a far far far greater percentage of people will use health insurance than will use their auto insurance. So by that standard, being required to have auto insurance is actually more oppressive than being required to have health insurance.

Quote:
Nobody is forced to pay for your auto insurance, you have to pay for it yourself!
But by your own admission, people aren't required to have auto insurance. If they can't afford it, then they should just not have a car. Problem solved. If they can't afford health insurance, they're still alive, so in order to protect other people from potential losses they need to have health insurance. The only way around it is to die.

I'm sure if I dedicate a little more time to this, I could add a couple more....guess what?....I'm not going to.......
I sure hope they're better than the arguments you've presented so far.

Now there's a flat-out lie, or it shows how little you live in the real world. When I worked in a court house, I watched lawsuit after lawsuit filed by doctors and hospitals to collect debts from their patients go to judgment. Then they started to collect by garnishment or levy. If the poor soul had declared bankruptcy recently, they had no defense. If they hadn't, they could at least declare bankruptcy as a defense.

BTW, the number one reason for bankruptcy is healthcare expenses that can't be paid.

And contrary to your representation, the doctors and hospitals were ruthless about pursuing their judgments.

National healthcare would stop this cycle. Or maybe you're one of those attorneys who is prosecuting on behalf of the doctors and hospitals.

Guess not.

My ECCIE Reviews
Default Transparency key in fight for discrimination.

I find it interesting that working for the government pay is disclosed and required by law. So why not the private sector?

"Sixty percent of private sector employees are discouraged or forbidden from discussing their pay, reveals the study. This may be one of the reasons the pay gap between men and women is 23 percent in the private sector, while in the federal government, where transparency is mandated, the gap is only 11 percent."

Charles, leave poor Marshall alone. He is posting here on straight commission and he works long and hard. He is paid only for the extra periods he uses and all those "HA'S".

An interesting aside to your facts about medical bills being the leading cause for personal bankruptcies is that the majority of those who have to file bankruptcy due to medical bills actually have health insurance.

The morons who think the health care system was sustainable for the average person are living in La La Land.
