What the what...
What is going on in Midland during the week of June 13?? Normally its not too terribly expensive to stay there, but this time around that week all of my hotels are either not available at all, or we're talking 80 dollars for a Super 8. Is there some big event going on? It doesn't look like I'll be able to stop there at the rate things are going.

It's the oil boom. From what I hear hotels are all booked due to the lack of apartments and rent houses. Seems to be worse Sunday through Wednesday, with better availability Thurs-Sat.

Huh-- I never had this problem in Midland in the past. It looks like I may have to completely rework my summer tours in the area.

Don't worry. It will slow down when they shut down the west Texas oil fields to protect wthe SAND DUNE LIZARD .

I don't think its just that. When I went to another hotel to check and see their rates, the ONLY days blacked out for the month are the 13th and 14th. Theres gotta be something else going on.

Priceline is awesome. Try that or there is a motel 6 in Odessa that is actually ok.

Kayla
I've done Priceline and Hotwire. MOST of the hotels owned by Wyndham (Days Inn, Super 8, etc) are either booked or wanting double what I would pay in Dallas or anywhere else. Even the MCM is BOOKED solid on the 13th and 14th and that NEVER happens during the week.
Its odd.
