TSA Threatens To Cancel All Flights Out Of Texas If ‘Groping Bill’ Passed
http://blogs.forbes.com/kashmirhill/...g-bill-passed/
I'm on the fence about this one. While I personally don't liked to be groped in public, the first time an explosive device is snuck on board I'm sure I would be bitching about the the need for tighter security. Of course Dan Patrick is a major prick. I like the comments on the bottom of the article...succession?
My beloved Texas is run by idiots.

What a shame the bill was withdrawn. I’m against the ridiculous X-ray devices, and groping people at the airport just because they can is a sexual offense as far as I’m concerned. They are intrusive and deliver a dose of radiation. Yes, I know, I know it’s lower than walking next to a microwave or some other outrageous claim made by proponents of the porno-devices. I for one do not believe it. Has the TSA released the inspection results on the full body scanners. Do they have a plan in place to routinely inspect and maintain them that is more effective than one they have in place for the luggage scanning devices? And is it published and adhered to? I'll bet no.

The body scan devices are: intrusive, unproven, expensive, slow, prone to more radiation than promised, and profits corrupt politicians from the last two administrations. Never mind the fact that long term exposure risks haven't even begun to be measured.
An anti-cancer drug that could potentially save tens of thousands wouldn't have had a chance of clearing the government bureaucracy as fast as these expensive toys did.
If I have time enough before the flight I will always opt for the grope before using these machines for my own piece of mind for my personal safety and in the hopes that if enough people join me we will stop wasting time and money on this technology.

"TSA Threatens To Cancel All Flights Out Of Texas If ‘Groping Bill’ Passed"
Let them do it. Let them fire all the TSA workers in Texas, shut down Interstate air traffic in and out of Texas!
I wonder who would be hurt more. Being a TSA worker does not make it legal for a person's rights to be violated. How would they feel if a stranger "patted" them or their family members down.
Perhaps they should have the same constraints as LE. Search only if reasonable suspicion or if permission is given.

I go for the grope.
There's better ways though. What do other countries do? I'm inclined not to trust the current US system.

TSA is the modern equivalent of the French's Maginot Line -- only more expensive and even less effective.
Ten years & 0 terrorists found.

Whether the TSA is effective our not, it's a violation of the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution to make the lawful acts of a Federal officer a crime under State law. That's just basic Con Law 101. It's like saying it's a violation of Texas law for and FBI agent to interview a subject, or pat him down when searching for a gun. The bill is political grandstanding, and nothing more.

Speaking of...
Where's all the Dem Libs bellyaching that more key provisions of the Patriot Act were renewed? You know, the Patriot Act that Bush signed and enraged ya'll enough to vote for Obama to terminate? Seems its being flown to France so "The Anointed One" can put his signature on it before it lapses. Talk about global warming.
