I always used an envelope because: (1) When I started hobbying, there seemed to be a consensus that using envelopes was the proper way to take care of the money; (2) I could have all of the money counted and ready to go; and (3) Using an envelope seemed less awkward. I just dropped the envelope someplace discreet and I can't recall anyone ever checking it until after I left.
