The Blue highlights, could mean your computer is on Viagra. Seriously though sounds like you might need to reconfigure something or update a mouse driver or something like that.

Do you have antivirus software? I'd run a complete scan to make sure it's not a virus issue

If you have a USB mouse, plug it in and try it to see if the problem goes away. If it does, that would indicate your mouse pad could be faulty.

move the mouse, not the mouse pad. duh. :-)

Better yet, it's a laptop, ditch the mouse and use the track pad.

The more bizarre and intermittent the behavior, the more likely the issues are hardware related.

Dear, it sounds like you may have activated the magnifier from the Ease of Access Center. The magnifier zooms the area around the ponter and can also be set to change the screen resolution.

To exit the magnifier, press the windows logo key +Esc.

Default Multi gesture settings

It appears that you are touching the mouse pad at two places while attempting to move the mouse pointer. This is activating the zoom function on the screen. You can control this by slowing the pinch zoom rate by doing the following.
1. in the icon tray on your taskbar select Synaptics pointing device.
2. select device properties.
3. select settings.
4. select pointing
5. select sensitivity
6. slide the button to heavier touch to decrease the sensitivity of the touch pad.
hope this helps.

Sounds like you are pressing a mouse button while moving around.

the blue screen stuff is "copy" aka you are about to copy something and you have highlighted something.

Getting a small usb mouse to carry around is not a bad idea

I too have a Dell that is just about a year old and have the same things go on with my laptop. I dont know why it does those quirky things. I have tried adjusting settings and it still does it. Now my fan is acting up. It is really load on start up and doesnt seem to run normally while its on. Not to mention my battery has exceded it's life so I always need to have it plugged in during use. Im pretty much gonna get a new laptop soon.

You shouldn't need a new laptop after only a year unless you just want the latest and greatest. If I were you, I'd check to see if the battery is still under warranty. Otherwise, I'd purchase a replacement battery. Try www.newegg.com, they usually have fairly decent prices.

This may or my not help but if your laptop is to close to something magnetic it can do crazy things to your monitor. I found this out by putting a speaker to close. Turned everything blue

That's all I've got!!

I have also found that it is better to get a wireless mouse with a USB adapter than to use the little mouse pad touch screen. Some of them just do not behave well.
