Default Anyone know of this scam?

There is a guy that targets escorts. He steals the identity of a well known attorney and wants to use your services for a week. He sets up a reservation at the Four Seasons (as the attorney) and sends you the confirmation email for you to verify. He also uses the attorney's real website as another verification tool. To make a long story short, he gives you a bogus credit card information for you to prepare for your long week. He wants you to go shopping online.
I called the attorney's office off the actual website and his assistant said the scammer tried this twice before with escorts in Miami and New York. But we're trying to figure out what kind of scam is this. It obviously has something to do with identity theft and stolen credit cards, but how is the scammer benefiting?
Anyone heard of this?

I've never heard of this scam, which Iam sure it is. Over the internet things happen quick and easy, like identity theft and various types of scams. I've always been interested in knowing how these scams work. I would love to find a way someday to scam a scammer, lol.

Yes, I remember that movie. Ya know I remember seeing a similar movie staring George C Scott. It was called the " Flim Flam Man" he ran many scams and later was teaching a few guys how to cheat at cards, pick pocketting and a few other things. I think he got dupped later in the movie too. Old Flick but a good one.

@ladylove123 was the actual card stolen from the attorney or did the guy use credit fraud to get the card?
It may be an admirer trying to spoil u from afar, or a jerk trying to get u in trouble for using a stolen credit card.
I'd feel comfortable saying that he contacted you as himself and didn't pass your screening so he got mad and this is his revenge.
But idiots do things just because they're bored... Who knows?
Stay safe...

Actually, this scam does sound familiar. I read a thread/alert when I first joined here (back in March) and it sounds alot like what you are describing. Sorry I can't be more specific, or offer additional details. But when you mentioned the lawyer, the bulb lit up in my head. It turned out to be some married guy using a lawyers identity/website and trying to scam escorts. Some of the escorts said that he offered to buy them a car, I think....does anyone else remember this thread??

the scam artist benefits because he looks legit on paper but when you call the office they are wise to him now.

Also if the lady does not check up on the guy, he can use intimidation by saying he is a lawyer and can have cops in there in a second

I was thinking it was a good revenge trick on the lawyer. There are many out there that hate the lawyer that opposed them or even exclients. I am not sure how he would benefit other than to embarrass the attorney.
