Trump WantstoControl the Postal Service
Trump is mad that delivering mail to every address in the US isn’t a profitable operation. So a government takeover he believes will make it work better and stop it losing money. I guess stamps will soon be $2. Or maybe everyone just won’t get mail. Let’s see what Musk will come up with.

First of all, the government can't takeover a agency that is already government.
But, he should. The USPS is a complete cluster. Dejoy is an idiot. I sell online and they are consistently late on delivery and have lost 4 of my shipments in a month. Aside from making a profit, it should at least break even since it's fee based. But we are also now using tax dollars.

Actually it’s an independent agency mandated through the US Constitution.

That isn't quite right. The Post Office was part of the executive branch until sometime in the 1970's when Congress made it an independent agency. I don't remember the exact year this happened.
The problem now is that with wide spread internet access and usage of email, the amount of mail going though the Post Office has dramatically decreased.

The development of the postal service is listed in Art. I of the constitution and established by Congress as one of their designated powers. It was not part of the executive branch except to the extent that management of the service was delegated to the Executive. In the 1970s it was reorganized into an independent agency by congress.

Either way, it's a cr*p show and needs to be fixed. Email, online bill pay and statements, Direct Deposit, DocuSign, Amazon, UPS, FEDEX. Seems mostly supported by Tax Payers, junk mail and Political campaigns during election season. Way too much crap IMO.
is there a real need for it? Every day? There's nothing anyone needs their mail every single day that can't be signed for or done online. Boomers are the only ones that check it everyday, Soc Security doesn't send checks, they insist on Direct Deposit.
---------------------------------------
From an AI:
The United States Postal Service (USPS) is an independent agency of the federal government, not a traditional government department under direct control of the executive branch or Congress. Here's a breakdown:
Status: The USPS was established under the Postal Reorganization Act of 1970, which transformed the old Post Office Department into an independent entity. It operates like a business, funding itself primarily through revenue from postage and services rather than taxpayer dollars. However, it still has a public mission to provide universal postal service across the United States.
Oversight: The USPS is not directly managed by either the executive branch or Congress. Instead, it’s governed by a Board of Governors, which functions similarly to a corporate board of directors. The board includes up to nine members appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate, plus the Postmaster General and Deputy Postmaster General. The Postmaster General, who runs day-to-day operations, is selected by the Board, not the President.
Congressional Role:
Congress has regulatory authority over the USPS. It sets broad policies, like mandating six-day delivery or approving postage rate changes through the Postal Regulatory Commission (an independent body). However, Congress doesn’t manage USPS operations directly.
Executive Branch Connection:
While the President appoints the governors (with Senate approval), the executive branch doesn’t have operational control. The USPS isn’t part of any executive department (like, say, the Department of Defense). Its independence means it’s not subject to the same executive orders or budget processes as typical agencies.
In short: USPS is an independent federal agency, self-funded but with oversight from Congress and a governance structure tied to presidential appointments. Neither Congress nor the executive branch "runs" it in a direct sense—they set the framework, but the USPS operates autonomously within that.

You can bad mouth or praise it.
I've had a PO box for 4 decades. Haven't lost one piece of mail since getting it.
And doing stuff with alot of overseas stuff (asia and europe), I will never bad mouth time it takes to get mail here in the US of A. I can have 1 month turnaround from other places. Not here.
And not bad mouthing other companies, but recently had a bad experience with UPS. I know they are good but everyone screws up. Next time i'm gonna trick them into sending package to PO BOX like they say they aren't suppose to.

The USPS has been stuck in a no-win situation for some time.
While an 'independent' organization, the Board of Governors and Congress have not allowed them to implement a number of measures that would have reduced expenses.
Saturday mail deliveries? Wanted to end them....USPS told no.
Close duplicative post offices? USPS told no.
Etc. etc.
As noted, the USPS unique requirement for 'pre-funding' retirement is a significant contributor to USPS losses.
Current (and soon to 'retire') Louis DeJoy was installed by Donald Trump.
