Default tariffs start this weekend

25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico

Let's see how this plays out for the effect on prices

It’ll lower prices because, according to the economic genius Donald Trump, Canada and Mexico will pay the tariffs into a US Treasury bank account.

Hopefully the discussion here will revolve more around foreign relations, and if Canada and Mexico will reciprocate with tariffs on US products and services.

With money paid by the American people in the form of higher prices due to the tariffs.

Actually, it won't fund the tax cuts...

But, according to new Press Secretary, it's a hypothetical question...LOL

and what about all these decades where American consumers paid more for over tariff-ed imported goods?

since the end of WWII the US has allowed the world to over tariff America. for several decades that was fine as we all know who emerged as the one economic superpower .. America.

these unfair tariffs were allowed for decades after the rest of the world had recovered economically from WWII.

how amusing the usual suspects in the PF think this is some new issue that Trump is making a big deal over after over 50 years of the US allowing this trade imbalance. now you act like if yer 70" TV costs 25% more while American exports are fairly taxed it's some end of the world issue.

nonsense

Well, Waco. Some of those tariffs by Mexico and Canada you're unhappy with were retaliatory after he slapped on additional tariffs right after getting the USMCA deal.

That didn't bring back large swaths of U.S. job but it did juice inflation and effectively increase our taxes.

But do go on.

Eggs are up. Coffee. Bacon. Now maple syrup, chorizo & tequila?

Wtf is your guy doing to my breakfast?

nothing and you know it. this issue has been ongoing for decades.

so your coffee and bacon costs 25% more. you'll be saving that much or more when the trade imbalance is addressed. follow the breadcrumbs. see the whole picture.

it's happening now. if you can't afford 25% more for a slab of bacon and coffee maybe you need a better job.

i don't.

your precious breadcrumbs lead to the conclusion the US has allowed unfavorable trade for decades longer than needed and it needs to stop.

now.

... Crikey! ... What a GRAND saying! ... ..

And the sorry likes of Mexico and Canada (who pushed out Trudeau)
will surely be understanding those truths. ...

No, those crumbs you're following throw the baby out with the bathwater.

And I have 14 lbs of bacon on hand.

You need the prices to come down or groceries will reap a whirlwind of change in less than 2 years

Tick tock, Waco

your breadcrumbs are 50 years stale and your bacon will only last a month. what will you do then? stop eating bacon? nope.

you'll save more on everything else and your coffee and eggs will not be a factor.
