Default your food is becoming less colorful

Red dye # 3 banned by the FDA due to possible health effects.

This may be the first of many food additives. The FDA is a useful government body. Sometimes used as a political weapon.

I don't mind some of their decisions. What I mind is the studies that show you need to consume 3 million of these products for them to be possibly harmful....and the product gets banned.

Testing of prescription drugs, food additives, and even vitamins isn't easy. Even on things that are necessary for healthy living like vitamins, taking too much of a vitamin also causes illness.

While testing at levels more than likely to be consumed helps improved the safety, how much is too much?

This has been news for many decades.

Thankfully we have cochineal bugs to eat instead.

Here's a good rule of thumb, "If nature didn't make it don't take it" None of these color additives were derived from nature. They are made from chemicals and formulated in a lab. Even though some color additives are harmless in and of themselves they can be associated with other harmful ingredients such as refined sugar.

Why does a brown MnM taste bad? Funny thing is to make brown you mix all the colors.
