He effectively changed the law retroactively, with no input from the legislative branch or anyone else. One can be anti death penalty if they want, I’ve got issues with state sponsored killing of citizens myself, but this isn’t the way to get rid of it.

Are you anti- death penalty then? I always thought that why would I have, or any other legislative person(s) have that power to overturn the findings of a prior court. I can see if there was an error, or a change in laws that made a crime- no longer one- aka such as the Staff Edit - Biomed1 that that could overturn the penalties of a crime. HOWEVER- the passions and thoughts during the time of the sentencing, should stand if there has been no change in laws. I am all for ppl paying for heinous crimes by the death penalty. Further- I think they should be a public execution,- because without it- what is the reason for them. If you're looking for a deterrent, keeping it quiet and secret isn't it.

I would prefer ppl don't act a fool and kill someone- but the likes of the synagogue shooter in pittsburgh, is one dude who needs a nice big public one. I would even support bringing back the guillotine.

Biden is wrong in the case of commuting these sentences in my opinion. Ppl who were convicted a jury of peers and sentenced need to face the consequences of their actions. If it's ok for ex-presidents or future presidents to have them, why shouldn't it be ok for the worst offenders who were sentenced to death?

Sorry- but even economically- these ppl who lag on for years - and sometimes decades spending the state or federal courts time and money need to be on the fast track. Not a perfect system, but if the two DOGE dudes look into it, perhaps they will find some ways to get these cases fast tracked to a speedy resolution.

TBH, I flounder on capital punishment. I’ve seen it happen in the Middle East, hangings, and it’s stomach turning, even by war zone standards.

If we’re gonna do it, then do it. Walk the guy into the parking lot when the jury comes back and put a 45 in the brainpan. These people sit on death row for decades, which alone is cruel and unusual punishment imo, not to mention the financial aspect.
