You’re correct. My statement is an opinion. An informed opinion but an opinion nonetheless. It’s also not all inclusive. Like most people those on the autism spectrum lead all kinds of lives . Some fulfilling and some not.

Your statement however is both bleak and all encompassing. I don’t pretend to speak for all Autistic people nor their families. You shouldn’t either.

I can't help suspecting that you really don't know what Autism is.
This is Autism.

What Is Autism?
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability that affects how people communicate, interact, learn, and behave. It's a spectrum condition, meaning that there's a wide range of symptoms and people experience autism in different ways.
Some common symptoms of ASD include:
Difficulty with social communication and interaction
Repetitive behaviors or interests
Different ways of learning, moving, or paying attention
Over- or under-sensitivity to light, sound, taste, or touch
Extreme anxiety
Meltdowns and shutdowns
While there's no known cure for autism, treatments and services can help improve symptoms and daily functioning. Early recognition and intervention can be especially helpful.
ASD is lifelong, but the need for support varies from person to person. Some people with autism may need significant support, while others may need less or none.

Never once in your AI reference (lol) is the word “disease” used.

Nor is the word “vaccine” used.

Even AI knows you’re barking but the wrong tree. As is RFKJ. Trump is just barking.

The word Disease isn't stated because Autism is an abnormal health condition without a known cause. A disease has a specific cause. It's clear that you're only concerned about that Vaccines aren't in the picture at least for now.

Actually that's ENTIRELY the topic of this thread.

If you want to start a thread about the causes and treatment of Autism, I suggest you start one in the Sandbox.

Please and thank you.

Oh yeah, the word "disease" IS used in this thread. By you.

I babysit a 17 year old autistic boy Tuesdays and Thursdays to help his parents, my neighbors, out. He’s pretty severe, nonverbal, and the most interesting person I’ve ever met.

And what does that have to do with RFKJ or vaccines?

Nada.

The thread is partially about autism. I believe it’s fitting to point out how, in their own ways, amazing some autistic kids are.

The boy I watch has unbelievable skills in language and mapping, all self taught. He’s receptive in at least 5 languages, probably many more. Drive somewhere once, even if it’s thousands of miles away, and he’ll draw you a perfectly scaled map. He’s also a world class checkers and Mario Cart player. I consider him one of my best friends.

This is true. I spend a lot of time babysitting and coaching miracle league baseball and it’s hard to gauge if kids with higher spectrum autism are enjoying themselves. With Down Syndrome it’s simple, they smile and laugh just like anyone else, but autistic kids are very much in their own heads. It’s common for them to not even make eye contact. I hope they’re having fun, but there’s really no way to know for sure.

We have already determined that Vaccines don't cause Autism, so you can rest easy. Jacuzzme is just stating his experience with Autism, nothing wrong with that.

I suppose next, they'll look into the moon landing.

Read for yourself.
The hysteria can be traced back to a 1998 paper written by Andrew Wakefield et al that purported to show a correlation to the Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccination. The study was roundly debunked:

As to the title of your thread, if RFJ Jr. investigates the discredited link between vaccines and autism and finds, correctly, that there is none, that would be positive. It would help make up for the 80 kids who died from measles in Samoa because of vaccine hesitancy. That would have happened with or without Kennedy, but he certainly was Johnny on the spot after a couple of kids died after getting the MMR vaccine. The measles outbreak there started two months after Kennedy's visit.

That's not true. The rate among Amish overall probably is similar to the general population or higher. It may depend on the particular community:

A 2016 study surveyed over 13,000 Amish children across multiple states. Researchers identified 153 children with ASD - a prevalence of 1 in 86. This is comparable to ASD rates in the general US population.

A 2017 study focused on an Amish community in Middlebury, Indiana. Out of 322 screened, 16 Amish children were identified as having ASD - a prevalence of 1 in 20. This is higher than averages seen across previous epidemiological studies.

A 2020 study of an Amish settlement in Ontario, Canada identified 18 children with ASD out of 258 screened - a prevalence of 1 in 14. Again, this rate is significantly higher than most prior studies.

While you and I believe, with good reason, that vaccines don't cause autism, the preoccupation with staying strictly on topic is backfiring IMHO. This is not as interesting a place to play. And people end up starting multiple threads on similar topics, which clutter the board. Remember how oeb flamed out. Jacuzzme's not going to start a new thread on a kid he's babysitting, and I thought what he wrote was very interesting.

Good for you Tiny. Then you can start your own thread about (forbidden topic).

However, that exchange is NOT an effort to make the thread more interesting, and if you don't believe that, then you're as naive as you are coy.

I agree that the asides can enhance these conversations, but some folks' entire "ECCIE rap sheet" is only about keeping on topic. Including mine.

I assure you I didn't rtm my own posts for hijacking threads. As long as people continue to be disciplined for that, then all should comply.

Frankly, I don't think who we "babysit" is even appropriate conversation for this site.

RFKJ now suggests the polio vaccine be discontinued.

Are you entertained?
