My question is does anyone think someone who choked out a mentally unstable person deserves to be awarded a congressional gold medal?
Just further proof of the devaluation of the medal. I think that Penny did the right thing with a poor result but that doesn’t exactly put him in the same category as the recipient of the first award.
“George Washington and the officers and soldiers under his command" in honor of the liberation of Boston, first major city liberated from British occupation. Later led the Continental Army to victory in the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783). Presented to Washington March 21, 1790

That ain't what happened, your inaccurate news sources are telling lies again,
He didn't use a choke hold but a restraining hold. When the police arrived he was still moving and had a pulse. The medical examiner in New York lied and didn't even look at the tox screen that showed the problems that actually led to his death.

Maybe not ~all~ democrats are against him, but those who are are definitely democrats.

I’m a democrat and from what little I know about the issue I take the side of Daniel Penny.
I still think awarding him a medal is a bad idea.

I would think paying his legal fees would be a much better idea.
Also, the family of the Jordan Neely is now bringing a lawsuit. This will cost Penny thousands.
My question in that court would be, where were all of these concerned family members when this guy was on the street in a drug induced craze most of the time terrorizing people.
We can only hope a civil jury will see these carpetbaggers for what they are.

He applied a choke hold and the person died.
Of course he stands trial.
And he was acquitted.
Don’t be daft, matey-o

It was a chokehold. Maybe an unintentional one but it still killed Neely.
”It’s my medical opinion that there are no alternative reasonable explanations for Mr. Neely’s death,” the medical examiner, Dr. Cynthia Harris, told jurors.
Harris ruled Neely died from “compression of neck (chokehold)”.

He stood trial because the government, City, County and State, wanted to pass the blame from their homeless and mental illness policies onto someone else.
American Hero, please. Daniel Penny is a good samaritan but not a hero.
