DEI is unnecessary in a meritocracy, which is what we should be striving to achieve, not some bullshit that gives points for someone’s skin color or who they like to fuck.

Yes, meritocracy is a simple concept. Pretending it’s fascistic tends to indicate one is less than meritorious.

Oh gawd. Really? Come on. Meritocracy in this country is a fucking joke.
Not for everyone. But when you have entire CLASSES of people who still live in adverse conditions after centuries of racism and discrimination, how do you address that?
Really. I'm asking you. Because your one sentence replies to a problem that has been tearing this country apart since its inception just ain't cuttin' it right now.
BTW....Trump don't count here, not one damn bit. Yeah, the man has unique talents that brought him to where he is. But there are two problems with that.
First is that he had major seed money. Major. Along with deep backup.
Second is that the talents he has ARE uncommon. He has skills and personality traits that he was able to use to help with his success.
Clarence Thomas is another example of someone with uncommon advantages (you're welcome!). I don't give AF if he benefitted from DEI or not. He is obviously in the top 1 percent of the population in terms of intelligence. He had a major advantage that many don't have, and was very likely to succeed DESPITE other disadvantages.
But what happens when you are part of a hugely oppressed minority and you don't have any "advantages"? And your living situation is the result of 2+ centuries of that? You DON'T have seed money. Or an IQ of 160. You are just an average schmo. You live in poverty because every generation of your family has lived in poverty since they were brought here as slaves. Or slave labor equivalents.
How do you get out? Tell me. Please.
DEI tried to make that better, at least. And as is typical with ideas like this, it was implemented badly in many cases. But to just wholesale oppose it now....well....most oppose it for one of several reasons.
First is that they don't really understand what's going on, and they maybe think racism was "fixed" in 1968.
Another is that maybe they have been the victim of poorly implemented DEI, like I mentioned above. Or they think they have. That sucks. It's not as bad as being a fourth generation descendant of a slave. But it still sucks. I don't know how you stop casualties of friendly fire. But I ain't running for office either.
The last reason is...that they are unfairly biased, one way or another. That's being kind, putting it that way. Fuck it. Let's say it. Racism in this country is still endemic. (why ELSE are people so fucking sensitive to "woke" ideas?)

I barely post these days. You don't post much either. It should be easy for you to ignore me. Please do not respond to anything that I post in any other thread, and I will do the same for you. That is not a threat. It is a polite request, just an attempt to avoid more hate.

No that wasn't me. Noting you can't defend your "argument". Merit should be the way up the ladder. Not skin color or mental disturbance. But by all means, keep yelling "fascism" while your side keeps losing elections by clinging to DEI crap. Equal opportunity has always been there for everyone. There has never been a guarantee of equal outcomes.

Let's state it another way: Trump=MAGA=GOP=fascism
It wasn't always that way. But Trump has used textbook technique to make it so. I would repeat the old adage about "those who cannot remember history...", but there is no point. We allowed this to happen, and it likely will only get worse.
As for DEI, you have fallen for another of Trump's classic fascist tactics, i.e. demonizing and blaming others for our problems.
This country has always had massive discrimination and mistreatment of minorities. Indiscriminately rolling back DEI is just more of that.
Trump and his taint-lickers like Robby Starbuck (Really??! What kind of clown uses a name like that?) are misrepresenting DEI to divide us and continue victimizing those who can't defend themselves. Few of you know anything other than what they and their lying supporters tell you. They have played you. And quite obviously, they will keep doing so.

... Not trying to be judgmental here, mate.
But have you ever thought that there's a possibility
that YOUR-own thinking on DEI may be wrong?
The DEI may NOT be what the American people want.

This man is a proud Republican and a Trump supporter. Why do Democrats on this forum choose conservative, wild west, gun slinging, American Icons for their Avatar? Does anyone believe that the Rifleman and Rowdy Yates represent Democrat values? A farmer, a rancher, who carries a gun, and uses it reflects the values of Democrats? Wouldn't someone like this be more appropriate for your avatar?

It was you. I could find it easily, but you truly are not worth one bit more of my time.
It would seem that it is impossible to get you to ignore me. No matter. I will ignore literally everything you say from this point forward. You just refute and deny every point I make, continually trying to provoke. This is totally pointless.
So say whatever you want. Even if it is about me or regarding anything that I post. Don't care. You do not exist.

Speaking of provoking....continually..
My last reaction to you on this site will be to correct this latest inane post from you.
Get your facts straight. You could not be more wrong about Eastwood. Or me.
Clint first registered as a Democrat. Then he was a Republican for a long period. And he was a Libertarian, more recently. But he supported a lot of Democratic politicians over the years. And was socially VERY liberal. Pro-choice, supported same-sex marriage, and...surprise! surprise!...supported Gun Control, including the Brady Bill.
He did not support either Trump or Clinton in 2016, saying "I'm totally an enigma. I'm just astounded. I hate to pick up the paper. I think both individuals and both parties backing the individuals have a certain degree of insanity.... "I'm not on either side of the aisle. I think most Americans are going, 'What the...? Is this all we can do?'" .
There is no record of Eastwood publicly supporting Trump for 2024 either. There is plenty of fake news, misinformation, and claims that he did. But they are lies. He has said so about some of them.
You don't know anything about me. Or Clint, obviously. I'd like to say "nice try" in your attempt to insult me over this. But it wasn't. It was really....lame.
BUT....my profound THANKS to both of you that I have quoted here. You have helped me realize my latest mistake. I had promised myself a short time ago that I was done engaging with people like you over serious issues. Especially here. But....I was getting pulled back in. Whew. No more. You are not serious about anything other than promoting hate and divisiveness. And I'm having no part of it.
So the thread....and the forum...are yours. If you post anything in reply to this, make it good. Cuz soon you will tire of it and just look...weird..if you keep it up. And I will see none of it. Ever.
(my true apologies to biomed if he has to step in. One more infraction will probably get me a bancation. But no worries...I won't be posting like this again either way. No more off topic, even. I won't waste your time in here again, no matter what happens)

Rooster, there is nobody in this forum worth getting worked up about and letting them get to you. Hell, I can't even take many of these grumpy old bitter blouses even seriously enough to bother to read their posts, let alone respond to them. But if you can't do that and they bother you, it is probably best for you to avoid this forum.
Until now, I've avoided this thread for a reason. DEI is a serious topic that could make for a valid discussion but there are way too many fucking morons in this forum to even bother trying. And I know this thread was not started to even have a valid discussion in the 1st place, so what's the point in trying?
Anyway, best of luck to you if you believe this forum is not worth the hassle of dealing with so much stupidity that bothers you and you feel the unnecessary need to directly respond to those trolls who IMO aren't even worth responding to.

Pretending it’s a complicated issue doesn’t make it so. Escaping poverty is easy, for any race.
Graduate high school >> get a full time job >> don’t have kids out of wedlock.
That’s it. Do those simple things and you’ve got an overwhelming chance of living a content, middle class life. Unfortunately these things are culturally inappropriate in some communities. The responsibility to change that culture falls on those within it, not on a nonexistent bogeyman oppressor.
Look to the Indian and Asian communities, minorities who outperform the majority because of their emphasis on strong families and educational achievement. It’s not rocket science.

... Ca'mon mates, I don't wanna see Rooster, Lucas or
me-own self or anybody else get points here.
Let's just stay onto the issues and the thread topic.
That said - DEI can be a complicated issue, and we're
ALL gonna have some difference of OPINION.
... I'd rather see merit-based hires in the business
world or with the academics - but corporations are
gonna do whatever they choose.

Difference of opinion is fine, Salty, but when I see a thread started by a guy who loves to race bait and subsequently gets banned all of the time, I already know what the thread is about. This thread was not started to have a "difference of opinion" and to discuss accordingly.
If someone starts a serious thread about DEI, I'm happy to participate in the discussion but that was not what this thread is about. The only reason I posted in this thread is because I saw Rooster's frustration and I don't like when folks decide to leave this forum over bullshit posts that they take too seriously.

If Harris was a republican or independent, her resume would be the perfect resume. Don't forget the law school that Harris went to is ranked 40 positions higher than the law school that Mike Pence went to. Is Mike Pence DEI?
