https://www.salon.com/2021/11/21/are...s-the-history/
Salon article is mostly a screed against 'Republican" Racism - yet it is teh Democrat party own racist policies they describe in teh article.
Democrats are sprung from teh KKK - their own creatin - and manifest their history by their embrace of tehir plantation policies toward black peopes- Who cannot 'Function in society", or 'get an ID to vote: - without the paternal direction adn ownership of eh Democrat partyu.
Democrats are teh greatest Racists of America - EVER
To wit ,- hannah Jones, Kendi, sharpton , Xinn and MSNBC - LSM - all dedicated to Racism and keeping black Peoples on teh Democraticommunist Plantation.
Sad - and Shameful - how teh Democraticommunists Lie to achieve their Communist , Racist, 'paradise"!

Jesus....the GOP was the progressive party fighting to free slaves , gain women the right to vote and the Democrats were the conserative party resistant to change.
That all changed with LBJ.
Now it is the GOP that houses the conservatives and the Democrats that are the progressive party wanting equal rights for the LGBT community for example. That does not mean that all GOP voters are racist or that Democrats aren't idiots.
You ignorance of nuanced history lead you to post nonsense like this.
This country is way better than it was a 100 years ago for women, blacks and gays. That does not mean we should not strive to be better.

as oeb states .. this Salon article is sheer far left nonsense. it's major points are flawed. let's look at a few shall we?
The big sort began in earnest 20 years later, in Franklin D. Roosevelt's landslide victory over President Herbert Hoover, a Republican who was widely blamed (fairly or otherwise) for the stock market crash of 1929 and the trauma of the Great Depression. Roosevelt set out, quite literally, to save capitalism with his famously ambitious agenda, known as the New Deal. Politically the New Deal allowed Democrats to forge a majority coalition by becoming the party that offered economic security to America's most vulnerable citizens, and by greatly expanding government aid and assistance in many other areas of life.
any attempt to paint that effete snob socialist FDR as the "savior" of capitalism is laughable. the New Deal was an abject failure. and it ushered in the one thing that the founding fathers most certainly did not want .. a large intrusive Federal Government. the founding fathers limited the scope of the Federal Government in favor of State's rights for a reason. FDR was a betrayal of this.
Roosevelt's economic and political innovations laid the foundations for several decades of American prosperity that, among other things, allowed the baby-boom generation to flourish as no other generation had before (or has since).
more total nonsense. the one and only thing that lifted the U.S. out of the Great Depression and FDR's dismal handling of it was WWII. FDR had nothing to do with it.
now for another of this author's revisionist history ....
As Johnson himself clearly foresaw, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Voting Rights Act of 1965 — which established full racial equality, at least as a matter of law — drove white Southerners out of the Democratic Party, apparently forever. A conservative insurrection within the Republican Party began immediately, resulting in the nomination of Barry Goldwater (essentially a segregationist, although he was not from the South) in the 1964 election.
nonsense. lies. false.
In the Senate, Goldwater rejected the legacy of the New Deal and, along with the conservative coalition, fought against the New Deal coalition. Goldwater also had a reputation as a "maverick" for his challenging his party's moderate to liberal wing on policy issues. A member of the NAACP and active supporter of desegregation in Phoenix,[3][4] Goldwater voted in favor of the Civil Rights Act of 1957 and the 24th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, but reluctantly opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964— despite believing in racial equality, he felt one of its provisions to be unconstitutional and a potential overreach of the federal government—a decision that considerably anguished him.
so, what do we learn here? that this asshole liberal Matthew Rozsa simply does not like anyone who thinks FDR's New Deal was great (it wasn't) and who found tenants of the 1965 Civil Rights Act to be unconstitutional this he feels justified to label Goldwater a "segregationist" when it's clear who the real segregationists were. the Democratic party.
today's Democratic party is even more racist, socialist and intolerant than at any point in their miserable existence.

Goldwater did oppose the bill called the Civil Rights Act of 1964 but not for the reasons given. Goldwater said it himself that the act was unnecessary as everyone was already guaranteed the right to vote and more legislation was not required. All it took was a court, dominated by FDR hold overs, to rule that everyone meant EVERYONE. So maybe the act was needed. The big lie though was that racist democrats joined the republican party after the election of 1948. So not true. Only two elected democrats changed parties; one senator and one congressman. The rest? They went back to where they belonged, the democrat party. The party of segregationists like Orval Faubus (Mayor of Little Rock), Richard Byrd (Grand Keagle of the Klan), J. William Fulbright (mentor to Bill Clinton) and the young man, George Wallace (segregation now, segregation forever).
As for the New Deal, World War II ended the Great Depression not Roosevelt. What did happen though is the first American became dependent on the government. A new kind of slavery and blacks were the biggest victims. Following the war, every other industrialized country in the world had their industry destroyed by the war. The US was the only game in town for the next 20 years. We fucked up by deciding that it would always be that way. Explains our lagging car designs, energy production, and culture.

LBJ was as racist a person who has ever held government office. His being a proponent of social gibs to black people was for one reason, to buy their votes. The democratic party has taken that ball and ran with it ever since, destroying their communities in the process.

Is "nuanced history" a new CNN phrase describing propaganda?
Were you even alive during LBJ's reign?
"You ignorance"? With every post you reveal the depth of YOURs.

What ever the reason....it does not change the fact that the progressives went from voting Republicans to voting Democrats. That all changed in the 1960's.
And vice versa.
That is why oeb , wacko and all others are either ignorant of the facts or liars.
Progressive vote for equality and change. Conseratives, not so much.
The GOP was the progressive party up until the 1960.
Progressives voted for freeing the slaves. They were the ones fighting for the right for women to vote.
In the 1960 through the 1980 the progressives gradually moved from the GOP to become Democrats. And vice versa.
So no matter how many threads you start trying to discount these facts...all it will do is showcase your ignorance and others on the matter.
Unless of course you are arguing you are a fucking Progressive.

No, it is my phrase describing yours and others lies.
Are you Progressive? That is how one would describe the Democrats of today.
That is how one would describe the GOP of yesteryear.
You are an old white man, really old. You speak of your days as a Democrat.
You were a Democrat when they were a Conserative party, resistant to change. The Democrats are now the Progressive Party...how can you and others be so ignorant of this fact and history.

Are you really this clueless? The transformation from progressive moving from the GOP to the Democrats began in the 1960's and was completed in the 1980-90.
Bill Clinton, a Progressive, lost the House to the GOP for the first time in 40 years.Forty fucking years the majority was made up of conserative Democrats mostly from the Southern states....thus Nixon's Southern strategy.
Instead of Republicans or Democrats.
Think Progressive or Conseratives and it is much simpler for you numbnuts to grasp.
