Whatsapp is owned by facebook and while I doubt they are going to provide info to LE I wouldn't be surprised if they somehow decided to monetize suspected less than legal activity. Its PROBABLY fine but I would personally not recommend it

I've liked what I've seen of Signal but is there a good way to mask/alias your number? Again, it is PROBABLY fine but I would rather not have my personal number appear in any inevitable leaks.

In general he's talking about being identified via "Patterns of life"

It takes a little work to setup something like Signal in a manner to be "anonymous"

There was some press not too long about about Signal being "hacked", it is actually a vulnerability on iphones...as a result Signal has done this:

https://signal.org/blog/cellebrite-vulnerabilities/

To give a quick overview..Signal is adding some random files that will cause code execution on the Cellebrite software if they (LE) use it to "scan" your phone.

Depends on how "anonymous" you are trying to stay. I you're really really serious signal should be installed on something without a cellular antenna, should never be used on anything but a public wifi, never be turned on while around you're cell phone

If you're just trying to layer so a S.O. can't be snooping in your stuff is one thing but .gov or determined L.E. is a whole different level.

might want to read up on the so called encrypted messaging text app called "ANOM", and who it was used by and for what, before installing any type of text apps on your phones .... you never know who's really behind them.... just saying

As long as any of these apps are installed on stock OS'es like iOS or Android, either of those OS'es can keylog all your actions and text, regardless of any encryption setups, and transmit to remote location, when a connection is present. One could argue that having any of those encrypted messaging apps installed would make you more likely to be targeted for such surveillance by those corporations.

Why wouldn't you turn it on around your cell?

Turning your "burner" cell on around your "daily driver" achieves parity.
