I hate both sides of this.
I positively disapprove of American Imperialism, such as this.
I also think Maduro is a tyrant that needs to be removed from power by the people of Venezuela.
I'm fully onboard with Venezuela trying to get it's oil industry back together, but now my worry with them "opening up to foreign investment" is who the foreign investors are.

Every person is a tyrant of a specific magnitude, some more than others, and some need more or less power in their sphere to actualize it. The old adage "Power Corrupts, and Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely".
Tyrannical governments are a transitional thing. They get overthrown eventually, sometimes they're replaced with a different sort of tyranny, sometimes they're replaced with anarchy, sometimes they're replaced by something a bit more democratic, but it's all transitional.

So we know who we're ultimately dealing with when we deal with Venezuela. There's power and knowledge to be had when you know who you're really dealing with, especially in a world rife with puppet states and state-sponsored attacks and espionage using corporations or small countries as proxies.

The reason I believe the gov doesn't play with him is that there's still the neocon warhawk mentality that we can push around S. America and get away with it. The socialism thing is just an excuse. It's like Cuba-Lite.
That being said, Maduro needs money. He's looking at outside investors on it, and he's likely not looking at US companies because they're partially behind the US gov interference. Russia is optional, but I'm not sure how favorably they view Russia and Saudi-Arabia right now over the price war. I think China is the strongest contender. Whomever he picks, it's likely to influence his policies, because he wants the money.

Don't need a Flash Gordan serial to explain the CA forest fire issue - all the tree hugging idiots lobbied to stop CALFIRE's brush clearing operations. If you don't clear the brush, forest fires start. Fuck, you learn that in the Cub Scouts.
CA made their bed with that one, and they shouldn't get a single federal penny so they can sleep in it.
Re: the squad - Omar and Talib are totally Anti-Semitic, but I also don't think a blind eye should be turned on the bs Apartheid-lite that Israel is pulling.
