Teen who turned Dad into FBI over Capitol riot says he’d do it again

Jackson Reffitt, 18, turned his father into federal authorities because he participated in the insurrection at the Capitol back on January 6.

Reffitt recently spoke to CNN’s Chris Cuomo about the difficult decision to turn his father in. His father Guy Reffitt not only attended the riot but also threatened his own family to kill them if anyone turned him in. He told them “traitors will be shot”
Cuomo asked Reffitt to explain to viewers why he decided to turn his father in. In an emotional interview, the teen also illuded to Donald Trump but did not mention him by name.

“I don’t really know how to explain it,” Reffitt said. “It was just, it just felt like the right thing regardless of my emotions and how I felt and how much I loved my family and my dad. I was worried.
“I didn’t think he would actually do anything bad. But him saying anything even remotely threatening to me and my sister and my family and government officials, it was just too much.”

Reffitt shared that since Trump’s presidency began over four years ago that his father had become increasingly involved with militia groups and conspiracy theories. He often discussed the “impending collapse of the country.”
Would he talk to you about it?” Cuomo asked.

“No,” Reffitt said. “I actually never even knew he was going to D.C. until the day he left. I am sure it was because of my political views, but I’m not sure.”

Reffitt then added that he was “kind of on my own in my family right now” regarding his views on his father but despite everything, he still loved him and cared about him. “I’m obviously not sure about that, but I can’t know for sure. That’s the only thing I can blame this — the politics he follows and idolizes,” he said.





“I do think what he was doing he thought was right, but in the end what he was doing was not right, for himself or his family or the country even,” Reffitt said. “And I hope he realizes that soon enough. And if I could say to him right now, I would want to say I’m sorry for what I’ve done, but I did think it was right as well”

“Would you do it again?” Cuomo asked, eliciting a pause from the teen.

The riot at the Capitol left five people dead. One of the dead was a Capitol Police officer, who was repeatedly hit with a fire extinguisher. Hundreds of people involved in the deadly riot may face charges for the roles that they played.
Image via Twitter Because most of Reffitt’s family has deserted him and kicked him out of the house any funds he had to attend college are now gone. A GoFundMe account has been set up to help him afford college. As of Monday morning, it had raised more than $104,000.
On the GoFundMe page, Raffitt writes “I was interviewed on CNN and got so much support from thousands of people, so many asked for a Go Fund Me so here it is. Every penny is another course in college or me saving it for years to come. I might be kicked out of my house due to my involvement in my dad’s case, so every cent might help me survive. Thank you so much. Seriously.”

The kid saw a chance to rid himself and his family from a nutjob and he took it. Good for him. I would have done the same thing.


Few things have caused more harm than the idea that turning in criminals is "snitching". It has caused untold devastation in the Black community.

Okay, so the dad "participated" by "being there". So what? They were obviously a dysfunctional family that even Dr. Phil wouldn't be able to fix. That type of dysfunction does not happen over such a short set of time. There is obviously a lot more that the "young adult" is not admitting to. There are many other ways he could've handled this situation over someone "verbally threatening him". And unless he has proof of that threat, it won't even hold up in court with a great Criminal Attorney.
