Powell has always been an independent (small I). Both parties went had after him. His wife's health was a major reason he did not run. Had he run, I doubt anyone knows what party he would have agreed to run for.

What is a "real Republican" in your mind? Do all Reps have to think alike? Is Barr no longer a Republican? Is every appointee Trump fired, and who now says he is a nut job--are they no longer Republicans?
Just trying to understand your view of who is a "real" Republican.
By the way, as I said, I think Powell was someone who was far more concerned about the issues than the party labels.

Republicans are slowly realizing that Trump has split the party, even though he was a Democrat (Dino, LOL) most of his life. If the split sustains, Republicans will be a third party; smaller and ineffective. I'm an independent (small i), but Karma is a bitch. They were conned and too self serving to see it coming.
