Used to jam to LaGrange as a kid. Not being from TX originally, I was much older when I found out what it referred to. Made way more sense then.

Growing up here, EVERY school kid knew what that song was about. I was too young to understand the original story when it happened but it was told over and over in some form or another. Esp. if growing up with Marvin Zindler on the TV every night.

Then the stage play, then the movie and then . . . Marvin Z was still on TV letting you hear about it again. We spent several summer weeks at a church youth camp in La Grange for a few years. Even those counselors talked about it (well, how could they not, they were all of 18-19 years old at the time).

Nothing like growing up in the 70's and 80's in good ol' Houston!

My wife grew up in La Grange. She told me when she was in high school she never told anyone where she was from.
