https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/03/polit...son/index.html

the level of corruption of the Orange Clown is unlike anything seen in American history. he makes Nixon look like a choir boy. anyone who thinks he's going to peacefully leave office in 2020 or 2024 is dreaming. this isnt a left vs right issue, its a democracy vs. totalitarianism/banana republic issue. remember that when you go to the polls in November. you all see what he's doing here, right? he's removing all checks and balances on his power. and we have a clown for an Attorney General or this would be Watergate Part II.

@Boardman: "registered" independent. is that better lol

sorry double post. but i consider myself an independent even if it doesnt say "Independent" on my voter registration card. honestly i didn't look at my voter registration card before i posted it. mea culpa.

off topic, but i had the craziest hobby date ever tonite, the true "girlfriend experience," complete with tears and sobs and hugs and kisses and paying it forward. i'd post a thread on it in Coed except i'm on sabbatical except for this thread. so all you get is a teaser until this troll mess gets cleaned up on Eccie. its a fucking disgrace.

this is a more controversial take on Trump et al., so i'd love to hear respectfully from some of ya'll on the other side of the aisle, but here's the problem with the right's take on government, in a sort of syllogism:

1. government is bad.
2. the less government there is, the better off we are.
3. government is incompetent.
4. since government is bad and incompetent, it really doesn't matter who's in charge of government, since no matter what, the government will still suck (see #1).
5. all of which gives us:
Bush/Brownie's response to Hurricane Katrina; and
Trump's early response to CoVid19: "CoVid19 is fake news and we're doing an incredible job, the best job in the history of the U.S.!!!"

isn't Trump the logical outcome of the aforementioned principles? i think he is.
he is clueless and incompetent exactly as the right predicted-a Know-Nothing President (but wait that's a self-fulfilling prophecy when you elect a clown to the highest post in the land; gee maybe next time what say you we don't re-elect a clown to the presidency?). thoughts?

what happened in Kansas under Brownback was a similar scenario, except two additional premises need to be added:

1. all taxes are bad.
2. any tax cuts will be paid for by incredible economic upsurge caused by the tax cuts, aka supply side economics.
can any of ya'll on the right cite a single case in the history of the world where this prediction (it's actually a fantasy that runs up against something called "math") came true? if so, i'd love to hear all about it.

finally, i think that if we approached this rationally, we could reach a consensus that electing a fact-denying (he knows we're warming the earth though; why do you think he wanted to buy Greenland?) corrupt af clown to the White House hasn't really worked out all that well, at the end of the day. wouldn't you agree..

Great article on Trump in the current issue of Wa Po written by a presidential historian. the verdict is in:
The. Worst. President. Ever. the author points out that James Buchanan just breathed a huge sigh of relief from wherever he rests..

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.was...outputType=amp

i'm not going into detail right now on another piece of evidence that Trump is a clown, but here's the gist:
The Captain of the carrier U.S.S. Roosevelt (Crozier) send an all hands on deck email to basically anyone he thought could help stating his great concern for the safety of his crew after Covid19 broke out on board, stating his men did not need to needlesdly die. the email got leaked to the press. Trump thought it made him look bad, so he pressured Crozier's boss Modly (Sec. of Navy) to fire Crozier, which he did, citing Crozier's failure to follow the chain of command. (Modly should have said hell naw, you can fire me instead. screw the chain of command when you're guys are dying for no good reason.) the sendoff of the Captain by his crew was a sight to behold and made me proud to be an American and mortified that we have such a clown at the top. (Crozier has Covid19 and is in quarantine.)
https://www.google.com/search?biw=41...0.hdyP3WmefbM# the NBC News video is good.

[on topic] Washington Post as a credible news source? The next thing you know is that your Trump derangement syndrome will lead you to the New York Times and/or the Huffington Post.

^^well done sir staying on topic.

it is my understanding that the NY Times was the first news authority to report Hillary Clinton's private email server. i wouldn't call that a bias, would you?

Society in every state is a blessing, but Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one: for when we suffer, or are exposed to the same miseries BY A GOVERNMENT, which we might expect in a country WITHOUT GOVERNMENT, our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer. - Thomas Paine

sorry for the self quote, but the author of this article does a good job of explaining why Trump's firing of the Intelligence Community Inspector General was so completely beyond the pale.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/06/polit...ing/index.html

watch him appoint a clown like lapdog Barr as the new head as the new Intel IG.

and for those of you ready to charge that this is fake news, since when-before Trump-was CNN in the service of any political party? what it comes down to is CNN calls out the president on all his blatant lies. for Trump, anyone who calls out his bullshit is "biased" or a "Never Trumper" or "fake news." Trump would prefer a press such as North Korea has. no i'm not kidding. he really would prefer to be our "Dear Leader."

and he recently called the Saudi Crown Prince, the murderer of Wa Po journalist jamal khashoggi, a "good friend." whats not to like.

You do realize the piece you referred to is an Op-Ed?
Don't have to read past the first sentence to figure that out!

But you're presenting it as fact not opinion. That's why the media is getting such a bad rep.

Here's a good example of how they mislead.
CNN calls Chris Cuomo and Don Lemon anchors.
Fox calls Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham hosts.
They do the same thing but Cuomo and Lemon are not anchors in the traditional sense. They are hosts of their own opinion shows. Do you see how that's misleading? Non of them are presenting pure news. It's always tempered with opinion including their own so a better description would be commentator. Why do you think CNN chooses to use the word Anchor?
Walter Cronkite, Tom Brokaw and Peter Jennings were anchors all were liberals but you never heard opinion from them just the news. The people that work the local evening news are anchors. The local station will occasionally present an editorial opinion but it will be at the end of the news cast, it will be identified as editorial in nature and is generally presented by the GM not an anchor or newscaster probably to preserve the audience's perception of those people as unbiased. Once you offer an opinion you can't go back to being just a journalist.

Touting an Op-ed as fact is no different. That dude doesn't know why Trump fired Atkinson. Trump says it's because he lost confidence in the guy. Atkinson says it's something else. The FACT is only Trump knows why he fired Atkinson, anything else is speculation, but the writer of the Op-Ed presents it as fact. No where in the piece does he say "this is my opinion of what happened". That is intentionally misleading.

Again, that's why the media is getting such a bad rep.
