Wolf shutting down rest areas and truck stops was brilliant. Food and such just appears at grocery stores. No need to support the supply chain of truck drivers.

Why haven't we been testing freely and frequently since January like South Korea has? That's been a big part of why they've been much more successful at fighting this than we have, and have been able to do so without shutting everything down. The president rightfully takes blame for that, and I'd feel much more comfortable with Romney, McCain if he were still alive, or even Gee Dub leading us in this crisis, so there's really nothing partisan about me saying that.

to his credit, trump shut off travel to and from china back in january, if i remember correctly, biden and the des thought that was wrong... it probably saved lives and gave us some extra time. obama and biden back wen h1n1 hit did nothing and probably caused more damage. i might also add that when obama was still in office,he was advised to restock and increase the supply of ppe masks gloves etc etc that were depleted........they didnt
trumps crew made some mistakes but so did the previous group. its uncharted territory
all this stay at home crap isnt meant to end the virus, only to slow it down................ and its fucked the stock market and economy as they found out.... i think it would have been better to just shut everything down and i mean everything and keep people in their homes for 2 weeks or so....... either that or just order that for the high risk people to keep them safe
again who knows...........
I know one thing, polusi and shummer are assholes, they tried to add so much bullshit onto the rescue bill that had nothing to do with the virus or its intent... pure polictal bullshit, i have no clue how anyone could vote for them

Because South Korea already had systems in place (including expanded testing capability) to deal with a pandemic given they are located next to China where many pandemics start because of their wet markets.
Also South Korea has a much lower population than the US.
The US system was not designed for the volume of testing on such a large scale. That was the case no matter what President has been in office.
Trump's team's response has not been perfect but it has been very good given what they had to work with to start.
One more thing on South Korea - it is not just testing, but once the pandemic hit everyone there basically wore masks. And South Korea has a national database - which can track people by their cellphone. So when positive tests were discovered, they were able to track who else may have been in contact with that person and have them go into self quarantine. Too many people in the US would first, never give up their civil liberties to be tracked everywhere by cellphone in a national government datatbase. And second, a number of people in the US are too self absorbed and would simply say fuck it if told to self quarantine

Yes, we are a larger and more open society. But we’ve done more testing per capita in the last 8 days than S Korea did in 8 weeks.

We had a pandemic response team in place. In fact that was the name of it, "pandemic response team," LOL. It was created by Obama. It was dismantled by Trump. Trump claimed that he could get them back at any time. They're still not back. Trump knew about this since December. He was briefed about it in January. Still, no testing. He also could have gotten tests from the WHO but didn't. There are even reports that he tried to slow the development of tests early on because he feared that too many positive tests would hurt him politically. Restricting travel from China was a good thing. Not having nearly enough tests was an awful thing and it rests squarely on his shoulders. It's known that global pandemics are one of the greatest threats, and possibly even THE greatest threat to humanity. We weren't prepared BECAUSE of Trump. Not in spite of him. His performance has not been very good. It's been awful.
Trump has also repeatedly tried to cut funding for the CDC, but thankfully congress hasn't allowed it.
As for population size, SK is densely packed which makes it easier for viruses to spread. Population density is probably more important than overall population numbers. Furthermore, China has four times as many people as we do and they've done a better job of containing it.
Sadly, by the time all is said and done, our response will likely be looked at as one of the worst of all the countries that have had to deal with this. If we can severely flatten the curve right now, we stand a chance of limiting the casualties, but if we don't it's gonna be bad.

That is absolutely not true, furthermore, with testing and quarantining the infected, the earlier you start the better. We got our first case the same day as SK. We are just now implementing somewhat widespread testing and it's still difficult for regular people to get tested.
The US has tested around 367,710 so far, and SK has tested around 357,896 so we've finally surpassed them on overall tests, but we're still nowhere close on per capita tests.

Wow you must be on the Democratic National Committee's mailing list to quote all those erroneous talking points. Here I will debunk a few for you

Ummm - this was part of Obama's expansion of the National Security counsel to bloated levels. When John Bolton was head of the NSC he streamlined some of the bloat. Didn't mean the work wasn't being done - it was simply assigned to other people not part of the NSC. Dr Fauci confirmed this

The CDC is responsible for testing, not the President. That said the WHO never offered to sell test kits to the United States. The CDC opted to develop its own coronavirus test and did not use the WHO’s protocol for the test. Other developed countries with advanced research capabilities developed their own tests.

If you actually believe the numbers out of China who welded doors on apartments buildings in Wuhan shut, captured people out on the Wuhan streets, silenced Doctors who spoke up about this and made numerous critics disappear, you are hopeless

Yes, the PANDEMIC RESPONSE TEAM was part of the NSC, but the current situation proves that it was anything but bloat. It was a vital part of national security measures. Some of the work has absolutely not been done. Members of the team would have been in China in December helping, and learning about the virus. They weren't because the team no longer existed.
The WHO did not formally offer tests but we could have gotten them from them. Trump chose to downplay the severity of this rather than ramp up testing like South Korea and Germany did. In addition to receiving test kits from the WHO or other countries he could have used the Defense Production Act to compel companies to develop and manufacture test kits. He was briefed as to the seriousness of this in January. There's no excuse for us to be as slow to test as we were. Responsibility rests on his shoulders. If you don't believe me, maybe you'll believe him: "Leadership. Whatever happens, you're responsible. If it doesn't happen, you're responsible."
Trump's words. His wishy washy response: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raxbgin3cC4
I believe the words of my Chinese friend who's family lives in China. China has done a good job of containing this.
As for your goofy comment about the DNC mailing list, there are many republicans that I would trust more than this buffoon to lead us through a serious crisis. Examples from the past would be GWB, GHWB, Ronnie, Ford, and possibly even Nixon. Honorable mention to the deceased John McCain who I would have been much more comfortable with. Current examples include Romney, Kasich, Jeb, Marco Rubio, and even the Lizard Man.

What hasn’t Trump done during this crisis that doesn’t live up to your standards? 60% of Americans approve of his handling of the pandemic. That’s up 4pts from last week.

FYI- I'm seeing more college girls on Sugar Daddy sites mentioning they're broke because the virus shut down their college and/or jobs. I had a feeling it would increase the numbers.

Trump: ignored the problem, went on TV and downplayed the problem repeatedly, called it a media hoax, has been pulling CDC resources out of china for the past two years, failed to run their own NSA playbook on pandemic response, and has ignored his actual experts.
If, given the actual facts at play you believe that the administration's response has been very good, I humbly ask that you share your hookup for things we aren't allowed to talk about on ECCIE, because frankly, you seem to be consuming some really, really good shit.
