small research I did but I at least tried to verify the story and if I don't see proof, even though it may be true, I'm not buying it till I see the proof.
Before it was over, the pandemic had hit 60.8 million Americans, hospitalized 274,304, and killed 12,469, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
This was the H1N1 virus, also known as the swine flu, which emerged in April 2009 and lasted until April 2010.
So we will be able to at least compare hospitalizations and deaths thought the two diseases are very different.

From your own link:
The U.S. did not actively turn down testing kits from the WHO, although it could have requested them. The kits, however, are primarily intended for lower income nations without testing capacity.
Biden is right that the U.S. wanted to make its own test,
The USA could have requested working test kits from the WHO. The USA did not because they wanted to make their own test. Trump did not want to find positives (or want to have positives reported) because it's an election year.
South Korea and the USA had their first confirmed cases of COVID-19 on the SAME day 1-26-20. A week to 10 days ago South Korea had tested 100,000 people the USA had tested 426.

SK had the SARS outbreak hit their shores in 2003. They bungled that response BADLY. That is why they are so much better prepared for this. I imagine USA will be next time a pandemic hits...but that is "next time".
While I think the lack of testing capability is huge, in the sense of tracking as many COVID-19 cases as possible, to see how the virus affects people (I don't trust the data being put out by the CCP influenced scientists, including some who have been working with the WHO), I think President Trump's rather early response to close off travel from certain foreign nations may have mitigated some of the initial spread of the virus. Plus, if you are asymptomatic (virus or not), you aren't going to be tested anyways. We were never going to be testing the entire population of the United States, even if we had 10's of millions of test kits. At most, you will do as people have been told for the past month or so, and self-quarantine. If you are showing symptoms, regardless if it is caused by COVID-19, you are going to told to self-quarantine unless you need medical attention and need to get to a hospital.
To answer the original point made...I think, economically, we cannot be shut down forever. We would see more homelessness and poverty than The Great Depression. In recent polling, the majority of Americans have more concern over their finances being affected by a long economic shutdown versus the actual health effects of this virus. At some point, we will have to "start the engine again" and get people back to work. It will be a much more careful environment with a hair-trigger to self-quarantine upon any symptoms, but living like it is the apocalypse is not a tenable strategy for the survivors of all of this.

Dr Fauci the governments lead doctor on infectious diseases is not pitching that the curve will flatten in April. The malaria drugs first test was done with 26 people. One person died and 4 others had to drop out. So, the death rate is 3.8%. The same rate that it is now. The Malaria drugs don't look that good right now. Trump's tweet was misleading. Even Dr Fauci was quoted to say he didn't want to "embarrass" the president.
This is NOT a hoax. The virus has killed doctors in Italy and it has put at least two USA doctors in the hospital in critical condition.

Thanks Bambino. I don't think the curve flattening is an issue really. If the disease doesn't run thru the population, we'll be back in this position in two months. True, we may have a test or a treatment but we won't have a vaccine.

Fuck WHO. They were pushing the Chinese narrative that the disease wasn't transmittable by humans. They then tried to cover it up.

Excellent post.
The self-quarantining will have limited success. In two months when cases haven't disappeared (or reappeared) are we going to shut down again? No. It will be social and economic suicide. Seems like we're hoping for the "Summer will burn off the virus." You think people are panicked now, wait until temps hit 100.
The govt can't bail out everyone.

The Biden-Sanders Loons think so!
Watch who will be at the head of "the line" for government subsidy checks if Trump signs the current bill and it remains as it's written regarding those who paid taxes in 2018 getting checks for two months! Remember the Katrina FEMA assistance to the fishing/shrimp business owners along the Gulf Coast?
You will hear the word "Racist" OVER AND OVER AGAIN!
The PROBLEM: The Democratically controlled HOUSE passed it!
If Trump signs it ... HE'LL BE THE RACIST .... if he doesn't .... HE'LL BE THE RACIST!

The WHO had a test that worked. The CDC's test did not work in the beginning (a problem with one of the reagents). That got fixed. The point remains we can't test to the level we need. We should be able to test up to 100,000 people like South Korea. That is why you have Gov Cuomo of New York begging the CDC to let private labs that are capable do the test NOW.
As for the comment we can't bail out everyone. We don't need to bail out everyone. Amazon, IBM, Google, Facebook they are still open for business. We MUST get through this year with the social distancing. The virus is too contagious. Next year (Feb/Mar 2020) a vaccine will be available this is according to Dr Fauci. If we don't do the social distancing (150 million - 200 million) could be become infected. The death rate is 3%, that means up to 6 million people will die (in the USA).
When the banks lost all their money on credit default swaps in 2008, Obama bailed them out with 625 billion in TARP loans. Mitch McConnell's stimulus was what? 1 Trillion. The USA can recover from that if the virus does not overwhelm us like it did Italy. Get our hospitals the equipment they need and do the social distancing. It's the only way out until the Vaccine is ready.

Calm down. Most households have a test kit, it's called a thermometer. The 3% death rate is not believable. We may never know the real rate. I'm apprehensive about the number of infections given the credo "You may have it but never show the symptoms."
We can't practice social distancing for a year. Let the virus run thru the population. Waiting months for a treatment or a vaccine will be disastrous economically and socially.
There is no corroborated number that I've seen that sways me. Again, if kids were dying in significant numbers I'd change my thinking but they don't appear to be. Not in China, Italy or the US.
BTW, I'm surprised IBM is still around.

As the news-FACTS filter out, it will be disclosed that there were "tests" of "important people" before there was even a discussion about the extent of the virus and/or any treatment (which includes staff members and employees in the White House, etc.)
I suspect as soon as some real whistleblowers surface it will be revealed that while Congress was infatuated with dethroning Trump they were using their Cadillac Health Insurance plans to get tested and address any early signs and/or symptoms of the virus.
How much was the spending bill passed by Congress for the FAILED IMPEACHMENT?
LOONS have their priorities! And if they are fucked up they can always blame it on Trump! And speaking of LOONS!
Why weren't the DimWitted DNC Loons running for POTUS complaining nothing was being done ...
back in December and January?

This "household" had one ... dusted it off ... started looking for a replacement battery (or another thermometer to replace it). NADA!
So like toilet paper, water, and corn and potato chips, there was a "run" on them and their batteries.
After some internet shopping the manager of a drug store found me one at another store in the chain, got to her store, and sold it me! That's how I know I'm not infected. Check it 2x a day!
I wouldn't qualify for a "test"! One of my doctor's triage nurses screened me OVER THE PHONE!

Not sure about Cuomo, but more testing and tracing has to be a priority. Here's an article about South Korea's experience so far. They haven't had to shut down everything, because they're on top of this. They're a good model to follow.
