If I'm done with my business in Chinatown, I would usually stop at Pho Ngon across from Kim Son near Wilcrest. the soup is up near the top of my list for pho in Houston.
Last time I visited my ATF at Sunshine, I swung in directly next door to Duy Sandwiches and I was blown away by how awesome their food was. They have meat selections available but they specialize in vegetarian sandwiches and to-go meals. They were seriously incredible and if soup isn't what I want, this is my new go-to place on that side of town. Although, seriously 90% of the million or so restaurants along there are fantastic.
If I'm closer to my own neighborhood, I usually just drive through Popeyes to see how badly they can screwup a simple combo meal.

Pho Ngon : Great portion, lotta meat but taste is a little on the bland side for the Pho. Other plates are better.
Better tasting Pho is on Kimson side - Pho Dien (closed?) If I want big portion may as well stay on that side @ Kimson Buffet. The buffet pho is tastier than Pho ngon but no meat. May be because they using their own concentrate soup.
Duy is good but always busy especially around Lunch time. Not worth it to me when Thim Hung, Thien Hung and all the other Hung sandwiches around that corner will do in much less time. Also you dont have to cross BW8 during rush hour.
