Question It's almost Halloween. It's time to ask the perennial Halloween question.

This question:

For me it will be this scene from Scary Movie 3.5.

That much dumb blondage and silicone and peroxide in the same movie sure is scary as hell!

CG, what a great idea for a thread! I love this question!

Here are some of my favorite scary movies:

The Conjuring

The Blair Witch Project

Mama

The Ring

The Babadook

Insidious movie series

30 Days of Night (I have to go visit Barrow Alaska one day and see if I can meet a vampire lol)

For me any horror movie that is PG-13 like Insidious does not make my list.

The Blair Witch Project made me sick as in the camerawork made me nauseous and I wanted to vomit.

Exorcist would be scary for its time but I didn't see it for the first time until the 2000's on DVD and by that time,

I have seen so many other horror films, it turned out to be rather tame and boring for me.

My favorite scary movie will still be Alien 1979 and Halloween 1978 and this one:

the first time I saw it on home video VHS,

it had me yelling at the screen and white knuckled holding on to the armrest of my chair:

Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window.

Many of the horror movies nowadays are not scary,

they are just gross with all the gore and blood and disgusting special effects.

There is a difference between scary and gory bloody.

Pet Semetary! The old ones scared the shit out of me as a kid and the remake is pretty good too!

Of course Stephen King's The Shining directed by the legendary Stanley Kubrick and starring naturally crazy Jack Nicholson is always on my list.

Since you mention foreign horror, don't forget

High Tension

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Tension

Director Alexandra Aja's first horror film and his best

before he sold out his soul to Hollywood to make crackerbox commercial horror films.

Also anything by Dario Argento

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dario_Argento

or any of the other Italian Giallo Horrors

especially the ones made in the 60's to 70's and a few select ones from the 80's

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giallo

Also this one:

The Descent (2005)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0435625/

Make sure you get the UK version with the correct ending.

The American release version had the ending changed to make it more Hollywood style:

i.e. so they can make a crap sequel which they did!!

Yeah The Descent was awesome

Another american classic is Spider Baby made back in 66
One of the first dark humor horror movies and ahead of its time

Texas Chainsaw 2 was pretty good horror comedy. Lots of one liners from that film
Rob Zombie has been remaking Texas Chainsaw 2 with about every film he does
Even uses the same actor from Texas Chainsaw 2

Watched The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

The 2003 version with a very hot and very 21 years young Jessica Biel.

Yes there is more than one version:

unfortunately, someone decided to make 8 of these trash!!

You can't blame Leatherface for chasing after her.

She is quite a catch compared to the usual women he would find out there

in the Texas country boonies outside of Austin:

trailer trash whores of all races,

his in-bred sisters,

his spastic retard cousins,

and the occasional queer farmhand.

Now this was scary (and original) without the unnecessarily blood and gore.
