All depends on where you will be staying. On the north / northwest side for Japanese food try Bakudan Ramen at La Cantera.
Not too far from there is a nice small laid back place called wine 101.
Plenty of options around town. You won’t be disappointed

If you are a fan of rolls and know what you like, Sushi Express is good. They have a make your own option where you can tell them EXACTLY what you want in your roll.
Go to Godai for the omakase (not available Friday-Sun).
For japanese kitchen food I would go to Nikki’s Tokyo Inn.
For a chill night out hit up Sukeban (sashimi here is good) in the Blue Star complex and check out the galleries and stores. The gelato next door at Alamode is amazing.
Favorite place for dinner is Bliss. It’s Michelin star good and I’m baffled why it doesn’t have a James Beard award yet.
I second wine101. Luce on Huebner has a wide selection of wines and a fabulous happy hour menu.

Welcome to the Alamo City and if you get a chance plenty of time to make new friends, too.
